OK saw these posted over on RA. These are two players we are being linked with. Both Argentine. 19 Year old River Plate mid-fielder Erik Lamela who is apparently one of the hottest properties coming out of Argentina at the moment. The other is Ever Banega. 22year old central mid-fielder for Valencia. Both look incredibly talented and under the old ownership I wouldn't say we had a hope in hell of signing either one. Apparently Sabatini will be leaving for Argentina soon to sign Lamela so who knows? Check out the vids below ignore the cheesey music.

We are also rumoured to be trying to sign 19 year old Italian mid-fielder Marco Veratti from Pescara. He is quite the talent apparently and we are competing against Napoli to get his signature. I couldn't find a compilation video but he is one that is a news report about him.

i saw ever banega play live at the u20 world cup in ottawa about four years ago and i was very, very impressed. he seemed to me like a perfect vice pirlo at the time.

Yeah, Banega's a gifted player. What I want is pace and players who know how to work when they don't have the ball - which is hard for a highlights reel to illustrate.

Lamela clearly has plenty of pace, but I imagine you could very easily make a highlights reel of Menez from just this season and he'd look like the most devastating player in the world. What's Lamela's vision like? And his decision-making? And his movement to be two passes from the ball rather than one?

I suspect, so, Goffredo - if it's a 4-3-3 he'd be a more mobile, quicker, more penetrating partner to DDR in the midfield.

The problem with Pizza is that I think coaches think he needs to play behind the ball - because he doesn't have the 'power' to 'penetrate' from the trequartista line and because he doesn't have the pace to catch back up with the play if he gets caught wrong side. In that sense, he's become your true, out and out regista. The only way you can play him and DDR behind the ball, though, is in a 4-2-3-1. If the one is Totti, though, you then end up with a pretty static, slow side unless everyone else runs for buggery. And even that means you're often going to get caught with players wrong side of the ball.
