Vucinic reassures Roma fans

Mirko Vucinic has reassured Roma fans that “I never said I wanted to leave. I’m waiting to hear what their plans are, though.”

The striker is one of several players thought to be reconsidering his future after American owner Thomas Di Benedetto takes over the club.

“I never said I wanted to leave Roma,” he told the ANSA news agency.

“I haven’t even talked to my agent with regards to my future, let alone made a decision.

“I want to wait for the new directors and hear what their plans are, then make my decision based on that.

“Recently there have been far too many insinuations about my future, but there is no truth to any of it.”

To go back to previous discussion, I think Mexes has been getting a bit of a free ride because he built up a lot of goodwill in his time through the passion he showed for the team - first to celebrate goals (although, perhaps he was just enjoying the manhugs) , his passion on the field, etc. To me, that just makes it worse because I was stupidly naive enough to believe a pro athlete in this day and age still made this kind of judgements with his heart and that he felt like we did for the team.

There are many people at fault for this happening, and it doesn't sit well.

Villa Boas would be a massive risk. How's his Italian? Does he know Serie A? Does he know the Roman atmosphere? How will he respond when the shit starts to hit the fan - as it no doubt would at some stage. I'm not saying it's not a risk worth taking - just that it's a risk. I don't really care, to be honest - on the basis that I don't feel I'm informed enough to distinguish between the possibilities (Monty and the Domestic Python are clearly such unknown entities, really).

I'm not sure I'd be an entirely popular choice with the players - particularly since the first things I'd do would be to make them trade their flash cars in for bikes and hand over their playlists for me to reprogramme. lol. Here's an interesting quote from his agent in an interview with the Cambridgeshire Calcio Gazzette:

"Roma wanted Mexes to stay and offered him a very generous contract, but he'd already made up his mind to go. He wants a fresh start away from Rome where his family have been unsettled by a number of incidents. Rosella offered him a huge contract, but Milan offered him more."

You could be right. There are also reports indicating his "wife" wanted a life away from Rome and told Mexes straight out she wouldn't be going back to Rome. I remember his baby daughter was kidnapped during a carjacking and his family had at least two incidents with house robberies as well.
