Flagg, on Delneri, I meant in terms of his ability to step up to a bigger club - his record at getting the best out of 'smaller' clubs in Italy is probably the best of any coach. I was thinking, for instance, of the fact that Mazzari's Napoli are doing at least a step better than Delneri's Samp in the sense that they've actually mounted a semi-serious challenge for the title rather than a solid tilt for fourth or of the fact that Delneri flopped at Roma. I think there's something essentially limiting in Delneri's rigid tactics which I think set a ceiling for how far he can go; Mazzari's teams have suggested to me that ceiling might be rather higher for him.

This is just one season though. I think it really has more to do with Juve and Roma's poor performances than Napoli. Don't get me wrong, I think Napoli has been amazing this season, but despite their poor performances, Roma is only 9 points/3 losses away, not to mention Udinese is only 3 points away despite a pretty bad losing streak mid-season.
That being said, I do agree with your assessment of Del Neri's coaching abilities and limitations.

Juve track Ukraine duo



Juventus were impressed by Ukraine internationals Yaroslav Rakitsky and Andriy Yarmolenko during the Italy game.
The Azzurri won 2-0 in Tuesday’s Kiev friendly, but the performance of the home side was enough to alert the Bianconeri scouts.

It is reported that Juve are planning a double swoop for two Ukraine talents over the summer.

Shakhtar Donetsk full-back Rakitsky can play on the right or the left, while his contract expires in June.

This makes the 21-year-old a very appetising prospect on the transfer market, not to mention the fact he has scored three goals in just 11 international caps.

The other target for Juventus is Dynamo Kiev striker Yarmolenko, who is also of interest to Milan after a recommendation from Andriy Shevchenko.

He is also 21 and can play as a left winger as well as a forward.

Parma will buy out Giovinco



Parma have confirmed that they will buy out 50 per cent of Sebastian Giovinco’s contract from Juventus.
The ‘Atomic Ant’ spent this season on loan at the Stadio Tardini and there is a clause in his contract allowing the club to buy into a co-ownership deal.

“He is on loan with a fixed buy-out clause. The President has been clear on this and so am I: we will take up this option on Giovinco,” said general manager Pietro Leonardi.

The 24-year-old has impressed this term and earned a place in the Italy squad, setting up Alessandro Matri’s goal in Kiev this week.

“I hear others say that Giovinco will be included in different Juventus transfer deals, but he is a player who will be bought in a co-ownership deal.

“He is property of Parma and a treasure for this club. We are happy about this, especially as we are confident and aware that next season will be another great step forward in his career.”

Its more than just records over the past few seasons with Mazzari and Del Neri, its the little tactical movements Mazzari make throughout the course of a game. Its the way his teams always play so consistently start to finish. When his teams dip in form, they always bounce back. Del Neri's teams have always been a bit streaky and we are seeing that now with this Juventus team.

Del Neri has not done a terrible job this season, but he has not done nearly enough. This season is a failure for many reasons and one of them is Del Neri. He has proven to me that he is not capable of taking a team to the next level. Mazzari has been an overachiever his entire career and I beleive he is the best candidate after Capello.

Montolivo closer to Juventus?



Fiorentina midfielder Riccardo Montolivo would be interested in joining Juventus this summer, according to the latest reports.

The Italy international has stalled on signing a new contract at the Artemio Franchi and is considering his options.

Speaking to Sky Italia, Montolivo's agent Carlo Pallavicino said: “Right now it's best not to take a position.”

However, it's thought that Montolivo has given his OK to a move to Juventus.

Montolivo's decision apparently rests on ambition not financial gain.

If Juventus choose not to sign Alberto Aquilani on a permanent basis from Liverfekkin'wankscum, Montolivo would become an alternative target.

This is a much better move than wasting 16m on a player with no character. I like Montolivo. He is more tactically intelligent and a bit more tough with his tackling.

We really need to look at players like Gastaldello, Alvaro Costa, and bringing in one of the Palermo full backs: Cassani or Balzaretti.

I liked what I saw from Astori (up until the second yellow) in the italy game. And I'm not sure about Montolivo being tougher on the tackle or having more character than Aquilani. In my mind Montolivo is a trequartista whose been playing out of position, and he hasn't adapted to the position as well as Pirlo did.

Coentrao is definitely getting out of our price range now. He is a good young left back, but we won't be able to spend the cash on him. Especially when there are free players like Bosingwa and Taiwo on the market.

Astori is unavailable for transfer as he is owned by Milan and will either return to them next season or stay one more year on loan.

Montolivo is a much better player in CM than Aquilani. He has more character, more discipline and is definitely a better tackler.

We really need to look into signing a player like Gastaldello. I think he has come into his own and has a really calm mind on the pitch.

I see us being continually linked with Bastos... if we are going to sign Aquilani and still have Marchisio, why not run 4-3-3? Bastos isn't a 4-3-3 winger.

Juve to make €30m Neymar bid


Juventus will make a summer bid for Brazilian youngster Neymar, according to the Corriere dello Sport.

The Santos revelation is expected to move to Europe before the start of 2011-12 and a host of clubs are keen.

Barcelona and Chelsea are being strongly associated with the forward, but so too are Juventus in Italy.

Although the Bianconeri do not have the financial strength of Barcelona and Chelsea on the transfer market, the Italian paper is failing to rule them out.

The Rome-based daily is suggesting that Juve are hoping to source funds – some through player sales – to make a €30m bid for the Selecao talent.

A lot of talk about Juventus selling Buffon. I would only do this if we could sign Sirigu.

Neymar is expensive and unproven. I believe he has world class talent though. If his salary is right, he would be worth 20m... as a left mid.

Neymar is worth 30, and he should play as a winger in a 4-3-3 formation or a second striker.
I don't think Buffon is going anywhere. He's going to stay at least one more season to lead us into our new stadium, especially if we somehow qualify for CL.
