Its well known, Giovanni, that if a player has six months or less left to run on his contract he is free to discuss terms and agree a pre-contract to move to another club without the consent of his present employers under the Bosman rule.

Ok, perhaps its not part of the original Bosman ruling as that was quite complicated revolved more around freedom of movement in the EU, but its become associated with it since then that player who's contract is expiring can join another club "on a Bosman".

My understanding is that the player must first declare that he is leaving on a Bosman when he has six months or less remaining on his current contract. Mexes has not done that to my knowledge. If not, Milan cannot contact him.

Hmm, maybe, but I don't think so. I think he is free to do what he wants, in that he can listen to a contract offer from Milan or any other club without Roma's consent, and then accept whatever offer he wants. We need Red in here, he's the Bosman expert.

Galliani does not want to unsettle Roma defender


AC Milan have insisted there is no deal in place to sign Philippe Mexes, although they would be interested if he decides to leave Roma.



Mexes' future remains the subject of speculation as he is out of contract at the end of the season and says he is in no hurry to sign an extension.

Manchester United, Liverfekkin'wankscum and Arsenal have been linked with a move for the Frenchman but reports in his homeland claim Milan may have already agreed terms over a summer switch.

Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani denies this to be true, saying the club would never seek to unsettle either Mexes or Roma.

However, Galliani admits the Rossoneri are admirers of the centre-back and may get involved in the chase for his signature if he becomes available.

"There is no agreement between Milan and Philippe Mexes," Galliani told L'Equipe.

"Milan doesn't want to disturb neither the player nor Roma, a club that is our friend.

"If the player does decide not to extend at Roma then Milan could of course be attracted, like a lot of other clubs."

that article is 2 weeks old, the latest 'smoke' started 2 days ago.

anyhow, you guys should enjoy borriello, he is worth more than the 10m you paid for him (or will pay for him). i agree that if a player signs a contract with another club in his last 6 months, he must tell his club. but as of now, i think the rumors that are circulating are saying that milan and mexes have come to an agreement about the contract. i don't think they have signed anything yet.

yeah, the fact that the rumors are old is not in dispute. but both gazzeta and corriere had mexes agreeing a deal with milan as their headlines on their front pages 2 days ago gives it even more weight.
