Leonardo admits he “honestly did not expect” such a hard slog to get the better of Cagliari this evening.
“We scored the goal early on and I got the feeling we’d control the game, but we risked conceding at the end and really struggled to close down Cagliari, who have many quality players,” he said of the 1-0 victory.
“We are tired, but I don’t want that to be an alibi. We’ve got to wipe the idea of fatigue out of our minds, as there’s still a marathon ahead of us.
“I honestly did not expect it to be such a struggle in this game. We started out with a team that could give us width, but couldn’t really manage it.
“In any case, the three points are important and we are satisfied. It’s still a victory and you can win this way, with character more than skill. When you win while playing badly, it’s a good sign...”
Inter must now prepare for their Champions League debut under Leonardo against Bayern Munich.
“Bayern are a great side and almost all their stars are coming back from injury. Am I worried by their star names? If they read our squad list, they have reason to be worried too.”
Briz I watched A current affair today and there was no mention of Bergamet. I will try again tomorrow. Interesting thing was that they talked about a Appetite Suppressant called Reducta ( http://www.pharmacydirect.com.au/produc ... vpid=15884 ). This is probably why they delayed the discussion regarding Bergamet. Something else I noticed that you may want to take note of is that they had a slight talk with Dr Ross Walker about Reducta. He basically said that no one should use this as a magical cure to obesity. This is a link to the a current affair website. http://aca.ninemsn.com.au/ Click on the diet pill weigh in video for more info about the Reducta. Did I miss the Bergamet video by any chance. Was it aired last week?

Can Inter become the first side to retain the European Cup since Milan in 1990? History suggests otherwise
European football was once defined and dominated by eras, the great clubs taking turns to lord it over the rest of the continent by hanging on to the European Cup and not letting go. In the first 25 stagings of the tournament Europe's champion sides more often than not retained the trophy at least once before relinquishing their booty.
Real Madrid, Benfica, Internazionale, Ajax, Bayern Munich, Liverfekkin'wankscum and Nottingham Forest were the seven sides who, up to that point, managed the feat; the six who let the side down were the one-season wonders of Milan, Real Madrid (the ye-ye version), Celtic, Manchester United, Milan again and Feyenoord.
Since 1980, though, there has been a sea change (and one normally linked to the advent of the Champions League in 1993 but that's another story). Only one team has retained the European Cup since the start of the 80s: Arrigo Sacchi's Milan, winners in 1989 and 1990. Perhaps even more strikingly, only five other reigning champions have made it to the following year's final: Liverfekkin'wankscum in 1985, Milan in 1995, Ajax in 1996, Juventus in 1997 and Manchester United in 2009.
For one reason or another it does not look good for the European and world club champions Internazionale, who face the team they beat in last year's Champions League final, Bayern Munich, in the first leg of their round-of-16 tie at San Siro tonight.
Recent precedent suggests Champions League pain awaits sooner or later but, even if the slightly abstract concept of 31 years' worth of European Cup history does not weigh too heavily on Inter's shoulders, their Bavarian opponents' record at San Siro might: Bayern won 3-1 at Inter's stadium in the 1988 Uefa Cup and 2-0 in the 2006-07 Champions League group stages.
At least recent form gives Inter a fighting chance. After their rocky start to the season under Rafael Benítez they have won 12 of their 15 matches since losing 3-0 at Werder Bremen in the group stage of the Champions League. To be fair to the maligned Benítez, the revival started on his watch — two of the wins came at the Fifa Club World Cup, Benítez's swansong as Nerazzurri coach — and has continued under the yoke of Leonardo, who has reduced Milan's 13-point lead over Inter in Serie A to five points. Inter currently sit third in the table, with real hope of retaining their scudetto.
Bayern are also in third place domestically but are too far adrift to keep hold of the German title, lagging 13 points behind the leaders, Borussia Dortmund. But after their worst ever start to a Bundesliga campaign their form since the turn of the year is spectacular, with 22 goals in seven games. Twenty-two more reasons for Inter to be nervous?
Inter were unlucky enough tonight, thought it was a great game which was pretty even overall, only decided by an error by Julio Cesar (although your centre-halfs have to take some of the blame for standing and watching Gomez tap it in).
Eto was sensational. Everything he touched was amazing, it was just a pity he had to do it all himself. Surely Leonardo should of brought on another forward to take some of the pressure of him.
Will be very hard for Inter to overturn it now in the second-leg. Bayern's defence is dodgy, but their attack is something else and you'd have to imagine they'll score at home, so Inter will need a big performance, and a lot more support for Eto.
No biggy if we get eliminated. Bayern will be doing us a favour. I'd rather we win the Serie A rather than AC. In saying that, we did play a very nice game and was unlucky to actually get something out of it. Ranocchia continues to be our stand out player and I am hoping there is nothing too serious with the injury he picked up. Indeed Eto'o was magnificant. Dejan, Sneijder and Cambiasso all tried to assist Eto'o but we seriously lacked Pazzini/Milito.
Shield, we had no other striker to bring on. Pandev is so out of form and he is not the kind of player we need to support Eto'o anyway. Eto'o is so dangerous when he runs from deep or when he receives a pass or chest down from a center forward and can run into those channels between the central defenders and full backs. With him as a the focal point of the attack we lose that part of his play and IMO that's when he is the most dangerous. Milito is out injured and Pazzini is cup tied, having one of these players would have been greatly beneficial. As MI says, we expected this. We might have got a result if Mourinho was at the bench but Leo is too inexperienced in CL. Not that I blame him in anyway for the result but he needs to gain more experience at this level.
Its going to really hard but if Milito comes and if he is at least 80% fit then we got a chance to score a goal(given Bayern's shaky defence and intent to always attack). Because this team has goals in it. That might not necessarily result in us winning as Bayern at home will score. Either way I wouldn't be disappointed unless we put on a really bad show and lose 3-0 or 4-0.
Yeh cant blame Leo, he is still a baby. If he really is our new leader for the future, these kind of matches are learning curves for him and will gain so much valuable experience. Another 1-0 loss would be ok.
I dont think we should blame leo all that much indeed. A manager's carreer is also judged by his player's 'luck'. Their keeper kept us at bay yesterday, whereas ours, unfortunately gifted them a goal. I think it is karma. Last year everything really turned the right way for us, now it's payback time again.
Tests have confirmed Inter defender Andrea Ranocchia will be out for several weeks, but it is not as serious an injury as originally feared. The former Genoa man was stretchered off during the 1-0 Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich and was concerned, as he spent a large chunk of last term out with a left knee injury.
“The tests confirmed the latest reports, a strain of the internal collateral ligament in the left knee,” read a statement on the club website.
“The recovery time has not been suggested.”
News sources claim the spell on the sidelines will be anything from two to six weeks, depending on the extent of the strain, but at least there is no lesion.
“Ranocchia said he was calm, reassuring everyone on his condition. The results of the tests, in the end, substantially proved him right.”
MILAN - Distraught Inter Milan goalkeeper Julio Cesar walked home from the San Siro to give himself time to think after his minor error helped give Bayern Munich a 1-0 first-leg win in their Champions League last 16. Media reports said the Brazilian left his car in the San Siro car park and walked the short distance home having already apologised to fans and team mates for failing to cling onto the ball before Mario Gomez scored in the last minute.
"A bad night can happen," Inter president Massimo Moratti told reporters on Thursday after the repeat of last year's final. "Julio Cesar has performed so many miracles in the past."
Moratti said having Diego Milito out injured and fellow striker Giampaolo Pazzini ineligible had cost the holders dear but that little should be read into all three Italian sides losing home first legs in the last 16. AC Milan were beaten 1-0 by Tottenham Hotspur and AS Roma, who have since lost coach Claudio Ranieri, went down 3-2 to Shakhtar Donetsk.
"Last night was a good game, it could have finished either way," he said. "We are three different teams with particular opponents, it can happen. When we lose there's a crisis and when we win, we are the best in the world. We need a bit of balance."
Inter centre back Andrea Ranocchia went off with a knee problem but club doctors said they hope he can be fit for the return leg in Germany on March 15.
Internazionale boss Leonardo has a defence to invent for the Serie A trip to Sampdoria this weekend.
Andrea Ranocchia joined Walter Samuel on the sidelines in midweek when he limped off against Bayern Munich, while Ivan Cordoba is also a doubt.
To make matters worse for the Brazilian Coach, star right-back Douglas Maicon is out of the Marassi trip through suspension.
Javier Zanetti will thus come into the defence on the right, while Lucio will definitely start in the middle.
Cristian Chivu will also play but Leonardo will have to decide whether to field him centrally or as a left-back.
If he places the Romanian on the flank then Marco Materazzi will start in the middle, if he opts to play the former Roma man alongside Lucio then Yuto Nagatomo will begin instead of Matrix.
Decent win today. Was impressed with Ranocchia again and Nagatomo's energy. We have always been susceptible to those diagonal passes even under Mourinho and now more so under Leonardo as the full backs tend to push up high. Stankovic and Pazzini could have done better. Pazzini needs to show a lot more movement up front, coming deeper to get the ball and making runs between the central defenders and full backs. He always seems to do better in the second half, which I assume is after specific instructions from Leonardo. Stan was a little slow bringing the ball out of defense and passing it forward. We should play at a higher tempo in general if we are to break down defences like Sampdoria's.
It has been a really long time since Sneijder scored from a free kick. What a time to score and what a peach of a goal. Hopefully he gets to be his usual self again, its time we see the old Sneijder again.
I assume that it's currently difficult to see the old Sneijder since he is having very little options upfront. Pazzini doesnt like to get out of 'his' position much and the only one left beyond him would be Eto'o. In fact we've seen quite some beautiful one-twos between the two lately. Last year he would have Eto'o and Pandev on the flanks and Milito doing his runs in front of him. This year he has limited assistence. Stankovic indeed hasn't played as good as we'd have expected, but I'm just glad we managed to rest Cambiasso & Motta without dropping any points. And Ranocchia is a monster. I wish I could have seen him play alongside Samuel...
