I understand that the Sporting Tribunals don't exactly have to follow the same procedures as a civil court but this excuse is being stretched quite a bit. They violated constitutional rights in that tribunal in order to match a pre-written sentence to the proceedings.

There is one other reason why the intercepts shouldn't have been permitted Ita. According to article 270 of the Italian Penal Code, in a instances where intercepted phone recordings are being presented as evidence, the recording cannot change form and must be presented as it was recorded.

In this tribunal not only were calls often presented only in the form of a transcript, but when the calls were heard they were often little pieces of much larger calls.

There are reasons why that rule exists Ita which I'm sure you can appreciate. It's to avoid skewing opinion by telling only one side of the story, it's to avoid admitting edited and manipulated evidence...but thanks to Caterina Plateo we already know that the court allowed tampered evidence.
