Marotta: 'Juve fair on Berbatov'

Juventus director general Beppe Marotta insists they “acted fairly” towards Fiorentina, but have lost Dimitar Berbatov to Fulham.

The Manchester United striker had agreed terms with the Viola and flown out for a medical today, but never turned up, instead flying to Munich.

That transfer was hijacked by Juve, but this evening he changed his mind again and chose Fulham.

“These are very normal things that happen in the transfer market, especially in the last few days,” Marotta told Sky Sport Italia.

Fiorentina had accused Juve of arrogance and lacking sporting ethics in their interception of negotiations.

“We only approached Manchester United and got close to the player after discovering he had turned down Fiorentina. There was an offer from Fulham, but he wanted to evaluate our proposal too and give a definitive response tonight.

“He wants to stay in the Premiershit. Why was he in Munich? His wife is from there.”

Now both Juve and Fiorentina are thought to be turning towards Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner instead.

“Bendtner is an available player and we have evaluated him, but we cannot say that we’re about to conclude the deal,” continued Marotta.

“Fernando Llorente could remain an objective, seeing as his contract expires in 2013. When the rules allow us to make an approach, then we’ll see how it ends. At the moment it is a utopia to think he’ll play for us.”

Financially, the Bendtner move is better, but Berbatov is a much better player and he would've scored more goals than what Bendtner is going to give us. But like I said we can evaluate things in January. For now I'd go with Vooch-Matri. Giovinco hasn't been playing well, and I'm not a fan of the Vooch-Gio partnership.

Are Juventus really gonna sign Bendtner? Jesus, thats almost as desperate as Milan. How can you go from supposedly trying to sign Van Persie / Dzeko‎ / Cavani / Llorente, and then end up with Bendtner?!

the one thing juve needed this summer was somebody who can score. you got everything else except that.

and bendtner does not count.

and there is an unspoken rule in football that you don't tread on the feet of others when all that is needed for a deal to be concluded is a players' signature (when you're at that point, you know all the numbers and negotiations have been agreed upon). juve broke that rule, living up to their standards and our expectations.

Juve: 'Bendtner medical tomorrow'

“Nicklas Bendtner will undergo a medical tomorrow,” confirmed Juventus director general Beppe Marotta, who also criticised “unprofessional” Dimitar Berbatov.

There were reports today that a deal had been struck with Arsenal for the Danish international striker, which Marotta confirmed this evening.

“Bendtner is already in Italy and will undergo a medical tomorrow,” the dg told Sky Sport Italia.

“Until the final paperwork is concluded, I will not say that the player is ours. That became clear yesterday...”

The reference was to Berbatov, who in one afternoon agreed transfers to Fiorentina, Juventus and eventually Fulham.

“We reiterate that we only approached Manchester United and the player after we were informed he had already turned down Fiorentina. Perhaps he forgot to tell Fiorentina that.

“Berbatov certainly did not make a good impression on anyone and it was an unprofessional way to behave, so we agree with Fiorentina that it’s best he didn’t come here.”

Marotta also commented on today’s Champions League draw, which pits Juventus against Chelsea, Shakhtar Donetsk and Danish newcomers FC Nordsjaelland.

“Are we happy with the draw? We are above all happy to be back in the Champions League, at a level that fits the prestige of the club.”

This is where credibility comes in handy. If that guy told me the water was wet i'd check before taking his word for it.

If you ask any Juve official their answer is always that Juve have done nothing wrong. Nothing different here.

I'd have had more respect had they said, "Hey we need a forward and he was available. It's not up to us to honor a deal"

Siena: We had Bendtner deal!

Serie A minnows Siena have revealed that they had virtually signed Niklas Bendtner before Juventus swooped for the Arsenal player.

The Dane will complete his move to the Old Lady on Friday, but only after the Tuscan club made a concrete bid for his services.

“It was seemingly an impossible operation, but we had an agreement with Arsenal and with the player,” Siena sporting director Stefano Antonelli told Sky Sport Italia.

“It seemed like a dream, but, at one point, it looked as if we had him. The interest from Juventus then changed the scenario.”

Despite losing the centre-forward, Antonelli still praised the comportment of the player once the Old Lady made their move.

“Having chosen Juve, he still phoned our President out of respect,” the official added. “He, and his agent, behaved in the right way.”
