Juventus' Ciro Ferrara Reveals Truth About Cristiano Zanetti's Departure To Fiorentina

Juventus coach Ciro Ferrara admitted that he was surprised by Cristiano Zanetti's decision to join Fiorentina earlier this week.

Ferrara believed that Zanetti could be an important squad member for the Bianconeri, even if he was not considered a first team player.

"When I was offered the job by the club as a coach, I was told he was a player I could count on," declared the former defender to sportmediaset.it.

"During the pre-season he worked hard and I was very happy with his work. Last week Zanetti came to speak to me and asked me how the situation in midfield was.

"I replied that with the arrival of Felipe Melo, the competition increased, but that there would be space for everyone. He seemed satisfied with our dialogue, but then he went to speak to Alessio Secco.

"Afterwards, the situation changed, and during the match against Villarreal, Zanetti told me not to take him into consideration.

"Evidently, a club came and made him an offer he liked. I say all this because it's fair that everyone takes responsibility for what he said and for what he did."

Zanetti spent three seasons with the Old Lady, playing a total of 63 league games and scoring four goals for the club.

Blanc wants third star

Juventus President elect Jean-Claude Blanc says he wants his side to win the Scudetto soon so it can stitch a third star on its shirt.

The comments are quite controversial as they ignore the decision to revoke two of Juventus’ Serie A titles after the Calciopoli scandal in 2006.

Officially, the Bianconeri have won 27 Scudetti, the most in history, but every Juventino still counts the other two, making the total 29.

As part of Italian football history, every team that wins 10 Scudetti is entitled to wear a commemorative star on their shirt.

If Juventus win one more, Blanc intends to stitch a third to mark the 30th in the club’s history. Some pundits say it’s a populist move of a new President.

“I told the shareholders that our primary objective is that of achieving a third star. You know that on all our official documents there are 29 Scudetti, with two asterisks for those that they have taken away from us,â€

Melo wins 'Golden Bin' award

The Brazil international joined Juventus in an £18.5m transfer from Fiorentina, which also saw Marco Marchionni go the other way.

Melo having 'best year of his career'

Juventus midfielder Felipe Melo is surprised at being named the worst signing of the season as the Brazilian honestly feels he is having the best year of his career.

The 26-year-old was yesterday awarded the infamous Bidone d'Oro, an annual prize commemorating the biggest flops in Serie A.

Melo moved to Turin in an £18.5m transfer from Fiorentina in the summer. He has been widely criticised following a number of poor performances in Bianconero.

However, Melo feels the prize is unjustified, as he was an influential member of the Brazil side that won the Confederations Cup and also had a successful first year in Italy with the Viola.

“The organisers of this award are from Florence and the Viola's fans have not been able to stomach my sale to their rivals,â€
