Inter To Choose Between Sergio Aguero And Samuel Eto'o – Report

The club seem to have narrowed their search for a top hitman down to two, but who will they choose?

Inter's vision to create a far more competitive squad and increase fire-power up front has left them with a tough decision - they will have to choose between Atletico Madrid ace Sergio Aguero and Barcelona hitman Samuel Eto'o.

Reports in Italy claim the club is looking to strengthen their attacking line up, and they appear to have highlighted their targets. However, the news coming from the peninsula has been conflicting. La Gazzetta Dello Sport claims the Nerazzurri are after Aguero while Il Corriere Dello Sport suggests the club are waging a campaign for Eto'o.

Although Aguero is attracting interest, landing him could prove too much for the Nerazzurri. The striker and his agent both revealed on Friday that he has no intention to leave the Vicente Calderon any time soon. In addition, Inter president Massimo Moratti would have to put his club through considerable financial stress as Aguero has a €40 million price tag on his head.

As for Eto'o, the Rome-based publication believes a €20m offer could push the transfer through. The Cameroon international's deal expires in 2010 and Barcelona have not moved forward to renew it, hence the low mooted fee. However, the fact that Eto'o is apparently the top goalscorer in a competitive league suggests that the offer may, in fact, need to be somewhat higher.

In any case, Jose Mourinho will have to keep his plans of cutting his squad size down if new faces are to come in. Voices indicate out-of-sorts striker Adriano, who is back to his old party habits, could go.

Report: Inter Agree Terms With Genoa For Diego Milito

24oredisport.com today reports that Inter and Genoa had a crucial meeting to discuss the transfer of Argentine hitman Diego Milito on March 9, and the Beneamata will tie him to a four-year contract worth €3.5 million per season.

There are still a few details that need to be sorted out and much will depend on how Genoa finish the Serie A campaign and whether the Rossoblù will qualify for the Champions League.

The Ligurians are currently fourth in the standings with nine games left to play and should they grab a spot in Europe’s premier club competition, Inter’s fringe players such as Julio Cruz, David Suazo or Luis Jimenez could agree to a switch to the Stadio Marassi outfit in part-exchange deals.

Other sources claim that Genoa could ask to get Cagliari striker Robert Acquafresca in a co-ownership deal, but Jose Mourinho is unlikely to rubber-stamp the move as he wants to keep hold of the 21-year-old who will return from his loan spell in Sardinia at the end of the season.

Milito was already on the Beneamata’s shopping list last January, but president Enrico Preziosi opposed the transfer while admitting that the club would find it hard to turn down lucrative bids next summer.

Agent Claims Cagliari Ace Acquafresca Will Return to Inter

It seems the hitman is likely to play under Jose Mourinho next season...

Cagliari striker Robert Acquafresca has been firing on all cylinders this season and Lazio has a watchful eye on the player, but it seems he will return to Inter.

"We should ask [Inter president Massimo] Moratti if Lazio would be a welcome destination for my client," the player's agent, Paolo Fabbri, suggested to Radio Kiss Kiss.

"The interest from the Biancocelesti is welcome and obviously we are pleased, but now I know that Inter will keep Robert along with three other strikers.

"The Nerazzurri managers told me they want four strikers, two young and two experienced. Obviously the young ones would be [Mario] Balotelli and, of course, Acquafresca."
Fabbri did admit that Acquafresca will only go on loan again if he is unlikely to find much playing time.

"If they acquired another great striker of international level, such as [Didier] Drogba, I would have to sit at a table and discuss the situation with management."

He has scored 10 goals in the Sardinian side's impressive Serie A campaign.

Only four strikers? Ibrahimovic, Milito, Balotelli and Acquafresca is what it appears to be atm. So out go Cruz, Crespo, Obinna, Adriano and Suazo. I suppose the bonus is that Balotelli and Acqua will get quite a bit of playing time without a 5th striker around although injuries haven't been kind to us in the past..

I dont beleive we'll just have 4 strikers next season. I think Adriano will stay put another year....which is obviously a problem.

Lomba, what is Maicon's injury exactly? Thigh strain? That shouldn't rule him out for 2 months should it? Or did he actually break something?

According to reports Maicon will miss the whole of next month which means he will miss the game against juve. He should be back for the Lazio game which is on May 3rd.

APPIANO GENTILE - Inter chief of medical staff Franco Combi this morning reported to the club and José Mourinho on the condition of Maicon, who sustained an injury during the first half of Brazil's 2010 World Cup qualifier against Ecuador in Quito on Sunday 29 March.

Combi told inter.it: "I spoke with the Brazil chief of medical staff during the night. He had just finished the medical tests. Unfortunately, he confirmed that Maicon has a serious injury of the rectus femoris in his right leg. I have collaborated with José Luis Runco for many years. We agreed that he will follow the player directly until his return to Italy in about ten days' time. When he returns to Milan we will do further tests on Maicon to see how the injury is, and then proceed with a rehabilitation programme."
