Inter, Palombo nel mirino di Mourinho

Potrebbe arrivare già a gennaio

C'è un giocatore su cui Mourinho ha messo gli occhi alla luce di quanto visto finora. Si tratta di Palombo della Samp, centrocampista di quantità dotato di un buon tiro, che non disdegna la zona gol. Il giocatore sta trattando il rinnovo ma un'offerta dell'Inter potrebbe far cambiare le cose. Si parla di giugno ma se la Samp non decollasse il discorso potrebbe essere anticipato a gennaio, con la contemporanea cessione in prestito di Jimenez e Crespo.


L'Inter dunque guarda in Italia per rinforzarsi, e questa è già una novità. Il nome che piace a Josè Mourinho è quello di Angelo Palombo, che a 27 anni ha raggiunto la maturità calcistica. Il giocatore, che in estate era stato richiesto dalla Fiorentina, sta parlando con la Sampdoria per il rinnovo del contratto ma un'eventuale offerta del club nerazzurro potrebbe convincere sia il giocatore che la società blucerchiata. La valutazione di Palombo potrebbe aggirarsi intorno ai 15 milioni.

Il discorso è proiettato a giugno ma non si esclude un anticipo dell'operazione nel caso la Sampdoria non dovesse fare il salto di qualità da qui a gennaio. Ecco allora che spunta l'ipotesi di un passaggio in nerazzurro con l'arrivo a Genova in prestito di uno tra Jimenez e Crespo, a seconda dell'impiego di Cassano rispettivamente come prima punta o come 'suggeritore'. Non si esclude tuttavia il passaggio alla corte di Mazzarri di entrambi per la soddisfazione dei due club.

Inter chief Massimo Moratti is already thinking ahead to his 2009 transfer campaign and Sergio Aguero is reportedly the primary objective. The Nerazzurri splashed the cash this summer as they brought in Jose Mourinho, Amantino Mancini, Sulley Muntari and Ricardo Quaresma.

But Moratti has deep pockets and the presence of a Nerazzurri scout at Atletico Madrid's trip to Barcelona has set the rumour mill in motion once again. At the age of 20, Argentine international Aguero is seen as one of the world's most exciting rising stars but he is under contract at Atletico until 2012.

However, in recent contract negotiations, the Buenos Aires native managed to reduce his rescission clause to just over £45m - a vast sum, but one that may be manageable should Inter lift the Champions League trophy in May. Barcelona and Real Madrid are known to be eyeing Aguero and the former are said to be ready to offer a contract of £7m per season for five years.

Nonetheless, the allure of a new championship coupled with the possibility of working with Mourinho could be important and Moratti has shown this summer that he is willing to trade blows with Europe's financial heavyweights.

Aquilani Agrees To Move To Inter - Reports
Inter have made a move for Roma midfielder Alberto Aquilani as Jose Mourinho steps up his interest in the Italian international, according to Tuttosport, who claim the player has already agreed a deal...

The Nerazzurri have been after the passing genius and they tried desperately to snap him up in the summer, but they failed as Roma played hardball.

Aquilani's flame is still burning bright at San Siro and it shows no sign of being put out as the Beneamata have rekindled their interest.

Tuttosport claims Inter have made a move for Aquilani as they make Roma their number one choice for spending sprees following the arrivals of Cristian Chivu and Amantino Mancini in the past.

There is now the very real chance that the Rome-born star may become the third Giallorosso to sign for the Appiano Gentile club.

It is believed Aquilani has agreed to join Inter but neither club is willing to shed any light on the matter.

It's likely that the Giallorossi man will make his move in January and Hernan Crespo will head the other way as part of the deal.

Aquilani's qualities will make him the ideal replacement for Patrick Vieira. The Italian was rumoured to have signed a new contract with his club but that doesn't seem forthcoming as I Lupi have failed to give the player what he wants.

Adriano's Villa Burgled By Thieves
Inter striker Adriano is not happy despite playing so magnificently for his team after his house was burgled on Saturday night.

The Brazilian was outstanding for Bologna on Saturday night but he could never have expected the nasty surprise he recieved once he walked into his home near Como.

Adriano was shocked to find his Villa in San Fermo della Battaglia ransacked by thieves who broke in while he was at San Siro playing.

The culprits evaded security systems and they wasted no time as the safe which was built into a wall was torn away with force.

The criminals didn't open the safe but they did take it with them. Reports suggest it contained valuables, cash, and personal belongings.

The Burglary didn't stop there though as the thieves returned to steal a number of expensive clothing items belonging to the player.

Adriano reported the crime to the Police and an investigation is currently underway.The striker will now be hoping to remain focussed on keeping up his good appearances for his side.

During the 2006 World Cup, Martin O'Neill, usually the most compelling and perceptive of pundits, furrowed his brow in that trademark pensive fashion to deliver a scathing assessment of Sweden's Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He is, said the Villa manager, "possibly the most overrated player in the world". I remember thinking then that, despite his Carlsbergesque proviso, it was a highly questionable evaluation - David Beckham, after all, was playing in that tournament - but now it looks even more like pure twaddle.

Whenever I have seen the Internazionale striker play recently, which has sadly only been glimpses on YouTube this season, it's that other famous quote about him that seems more relevant. "He invents moves that don't exist in the material world," wrote the Swedish novelist Bjorn Ranelid, "and they are done like jazz improvisations on the pitch."

Indeed, on Saturday night against Bologna he devised a finish of such instinctive brilliance (tinyurl.com/4qd2ue) that the absence of veneration has made me suspect he must rival Hull City's Geovanni for the title of most unsung player in the world. Where the Brazilian has used north London as a showcase for the dexterity of the front of his right foot, Ibrahimovic's ingenious goal, not for the first time, was accomplished with his heel.

Having stationed himself in the left corner of the six-yard box as his team-mate Adriano skipped to the byline, he extended his right leg up and behind him at the angle Eric Morecambe used to favour when dancing off the stage to Bring Me Sunshine, as if the best he could hope for was to trap it on his thigh. But no sooner had the defender, Claudio Terzi, left the ground to clear the ball with a diving header, Ibrahimovic recoiled his leg with such force that his heel met the ball perfectly and walloped it into the back of the net before the Bologna player hit the turf.

Of course there have been other great back-heel goals - Gianfranco Zola's for Chelsea against Norwich and Roberto Mancini's for Lazio against Parma - but by doing it for a second time at the weekend, after equalising with a flick off the back of his foot for Sweden against Italy at Euro 2004, Ibrahimovic proved that it is more flair than fluke.

The British football fan, the cliche goes, is inherently suspicious of what the national anthem calls "knavish tricks", dismissing those players who are all feints and flicks as "fancy Dans", "too clever by half" or, in Ron Atkinson's damning assessment, "amusement arcades".

But for years the best players have valued how ball mastery and the ability to showboat is an intimidating psychological weapon in the armoury.

The night before Scotland played Spain in 1963, a talented squad sat in the Bernabéu watching Spain's training session. After 10 minutes they were looking at each other in disbelief and ruefully muttering expletives.

With that he tossed a coin 15 feet up in the air and Mackay thrust out his right leg, bent at the knee, and caught the coin on his toe. He stood there for a second then flipped it back up in the air, caught it on his forehead, knocked it back up and caught it in his left eye socket then rolled it down his shoulder into his open blazer pocket and waltzed off back to the dressing room to thunderous applause. Scotland won the match 6-2, a victory put down to Mackay's ability to fight Spain's psychological warfare in kind.

No one would ever mistake the thoroughbred Mackay for a show pony and we should offer the same appreciation to Ibrahimovic and the East Riding's boy from Brazil. It's time to celebrate those who transcend the mundane and whose skills are beyond our reach. Let's stop wasting time by looking gift horses in the mouth.
