You can't play with a 4-3-1-2 formation without proper fullbacks. Cordoba and Chivu offered absolutely no width in the initial periods and this is even more maddening considering we had Santon on the bench. I don't understand why Benitiez doesn't rate Santon at all, he will do a much better job than Cordoba and Chivu put together. I don't blame him for starting with Materazzi though, it was a bold decision and with our run of luck it turned against us.
Obi getting injured was a blessing in disguise and bringing on Coutinho suddenly seemed to open up space for the likes of Eto'o and Sneijder. I thought it was a tactical decision to bring on Pandev for Milito but it looks like Milito is injured again, the same muscular problem. What are the odds that we don't spend anything in the summer and we end up with so many injuries and key players in poor form.
Anyway, you can't blame everything on the injuries, the desire to run and work hard is totally gone. This team is a pale shadow of the team that held Barcelona at bay last season. Benitez has to find a way to reignite the hunger the squad had last season. If that doesn't happen anytime soon then we will end up with no trophies this season.
Get Motta, Cambiasso, and Maicon fit and you will find you guys are as good as anyone else in Europe again. Benitez's tactics are a 4-2-3-1 and you've lost the two that I presume he imagined would be the cornerstone of this team. Samuel's a big loss, of course, and you may need another quality player to play along the trequartista line, but with Motta and Cambiasso in front of the back four you won't concede many and you'll be able to keep the ball and dictate play much better and still have more than enough quality at the attacking end of the pitch to pick teams apart. Mou would have won nothing last season had he had to play Coutinho and Biabany (and Obi) as much as Benitez has. You also need a little bit more pace at the back if you're going to play the Benitez way rather than the Mourinho way. Materazzi would have done the job on Ibra had you sat deep and allowed them to come onto you as Mourinho would always have you do.
True, every coach needs time to work with a set of 15-16 players that he thinks will form the starting 11 and that same holds true for Benitez too. Unfortunately with all the injuries he hasn't been able to do that. I surely don't blame Benitez as much as the papers do or Briz does for instance. And I definitely don't blame him for playing Materazzi today, we are just going through one of those periods where everything seems to go wrong. Added to the injury crisis, we did not even invest in the market to get one or two of the coach's players. Every coach needs at least one or two players that he feels comfortable with like Carvalho for Mourinho and Benitez had his eyes on Mascherano and Kuyt. Those two could have been really helpful currently.
However, I don't understand some of the small decisions he takes like not playing a natural RB (when we had one) and playing a formation that has a narrow midfield. Before Coutinho came on there was not a single attacking move that come down the right. Cordoba was reluctant to go forward and Zanetti is not the one to take on players so we created absolutely nothing down the right. Sneijder played far more towards the left and Eto'o was touching the by-line. This made it easy for Milan to throw numbers on that side and scuff our attacks quite easily. There was a marked difference when Coutinho came on. Benitez is renowned for being tactically astute so some of his decisions puzzle me.
Frank the way i see it is no matter of modules or tactic .Who is responsable for the phiscal preparation ? If players are not phisical fit what modules do ? Now after 12 games we have more then 30 injuries more then 20 just on musles, going at this rate where we end up ?even OBI broke down today ,so the way i see it we have more injuries then all the seria A put togethar ,is someone taking responsabilitys ?
This is really shotty. We need to just somehow grind some points and hope we aren't too far behind by the time January comes around. Once we hit January we need to buy well so we can have a good run till the end of the season and challenge for the scudetto. We need to forget about the champions league (make the next round of course) and drop the Coppa. The scudetto is far too important to lose to Milan. Also, I said I won't judge Rafa, but what has really pissed me off is I like Matrix, don't get me wrong but why did he get a start ahead of Santon? Surely the obvious decision was to put Cordoba in the centre or even Chivu and have Santon on the right. Really, really, poor decision there.
If Benitez doesn't win the club world cup then I believe he would be a goner. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Moratti furious with Benitez Inter President Massimo Moratti has wasted no time in expressing his dissatisfaction with last night's defeat in the Derby della Madonnina.
The Nerazzurri lost 1-0 on the night, succumbing to a goal scored by Zlatan Ibrahimovic from the penalty spot, which inflicted on the treble winners their first loss at home in Serie A since March 2008.
“It doesn't seem to me like we suffered against Milan's play,” Moratti said. “The problem is that we actually didn't play. It's a different thing entirely and much more grave.
“I didn't like anything. One can understand losing a derby, but this time I didn't like the approach or the aftermath.
“We didn't do enough to think about winning. This won't do at all. It was an ugly game and we did nothing because we became different.”
lomba you use to say opinion are like assholes . well ? OBI is tired to after all the games he play for so many years ,lol only inter players had so hard .and if they did a good coach would know how to handle them ,soon you realise that benitez is no fucking good, he never was and never will be at Liverfekkin'wankscum ever body know how much money he squander . and is CL win was more milan fault then is ability. you can come up with all the excuses fact remain benitez is a faillure for as .
Pellegrini has already taken over another club if I am not mistaken. The two names we have been linked with are Spalletti and Leonardo. Gasperini is available. I can't think of anyone else either. Among the three, I think the best option would be Spalletti. His teams tend to play attacking football and he also favors the 4-2-3-1 formation. May be the derby performance has put a grain of doubt in Moratti's mind but I don't think he is even considering sacking Benitez now. Benitez has been put in a very difficult situation with the injuries and all the other factors though some of his tactics and subsequent squad selection have been suspect. He is in a precarious position and losing the club world cup may be the last straw.
We have one whole week without a game and perfect time for the lads to recover both mentally and physically. I just hope the players on international duty don't come back injured especially Sneijder and Stankovic.
Briz Obi got injured...but shit happens. I've never said that the injuries we are having are only down to them being old, but a mixture of various components. Being old, WC, change in training schedule, the San Siro pitch etc etc. And I wasnt extremely happy with Benitez's appointment either if you remember correctly back in summer, since I did find it hard to accept anyone after Mourinho. But like most of us, accepted the fact that we took the best guy who was available on the market. I would have more welcomed Hiddink, but he wasnt available. I would have welcomed Guardiola, but he wasnt available. Who should we have taken? And are you sure that whoever came instead of Benitez would have a better injury record? I wouldnt be sure. I'm not happy to have Benitez, but I've accepted the fact that there isnt much better around. Frank, it doesnt really make any sense to sack Benitez...Give him back some of last year's key players, give him a couple of new, younger talents in the roles he needs to cover and the difference will be easy to spot. But is it really down to Benitez that we've had all these injuries? Is it really down to Benitez that for the first time in 15 years, Moratti didnt want to buy anyone? Stick to Benitez, at least till the end of the season I say, then we'll draw our conclusions. At the end of the day, I doubt Benitez was ever appointed for a long-term reign here since he was never a first choice for us. But now, he is the best for the job, especially economically.
Yep, let's give him until the end of the season. TBH, Moratti's comments has surprised me a lot. Perhaps he is just adding some indirect pressure onto Benitez to give him a hint that even though we won everything last season doesn't mean Rafa can take it easy this year and we are going to accept no titles. Although as you said Lomba, really what was Moratti thinking not strengthening our side? On the topic of strengthening our side, those bastards Barca have an agreement now for Afellay for the January window. Guess we have lost out on a real bargain.
There are quite some good young tacticians, but it will be difficult to step up from a small club to a big one. Boas has 2 advantages here, since 1) he is already competing in the CL with excellent results & 2) he has already been at Inter as Mourinho's assistant in his first year.
