Inter have paid Porto £15m for Ricardo Quaresma, but James Horncastle ponders whether he’ll be worth it

In late 2002 the quixotic Romanian Laszlo Boloni gave 16-year-old Ricardo Quaresma a rather exotic nickname. Quaresma came to be called The Mustang because of his sheer bloody mindedness and habit of kicking out when people, namely defenders, try to rein him in which calls to mind the irrepressible spirit of the famous Mexican horse breed.

Quaresma’s nickname also contains a hint of criticism though. While undoubtedly talented, the Portuguese, who came through Sporting’s youth ranks with Cristiano Ronaldo, was thought of as being closer to another type of Mustang – the powerful yet inconsistent American automobile.

Quaresma’s solitary season at Barcelona appears to support that assessment, but one must remember he was only 20 when he arrived at Camp Nou in 2003. Portugal’s best selling author Miguel Sousa Tavares, however, believes his lack of dependability is compensated for by his creative genius.

“Many say that he doesn’t show continuity. But it that really a bad thing? I support the contrary thesis. There are great players who are distinguished by the regularity of their performances, and there are others that live for the inspiration of the moment, for the magic and quality that comes from playing without rules.â€

Crespo Could Join Roma In January – Agent

The agent of snubbed Inter striker Hernan Crespo has admitted that there is a possibility of his client joining Roma in January.

The Argentine striker is well down the pecking order at San Siro, and Inter tried desperately to offload him before yesterday’s transfer deadline, but the player refused moves to Sampdoria and Palermo in the hope of receiving an offer from a bigger club.

This offer was not forthcoming and, to make matters worse, Crespo was not included on Jose Mourinho’s Champions League squad list, a decision which infuriated the 33-year-old.

Branca Explains Crespo Champions League Snub

Inter sporting director Marco Branca has explained Hernan Crespo’s exclusion from the Champions League and he seems to suggest that it was down to injury, but Il Valdanito is fully fit.

The Argentine was not included in the list the club handed UEFA for the 2008/09 season and he is livid with being snubbed.

Crespo is so angry that he said he would be more happier to sit on the bench rather than play after he was excluded from European action.

Branca has now revealed the reasons behind the decision to leave the striker out in the cold.

"I think that there are other great players who are injured and who haven’t been included in the list. In any case, these decisions must be respected," said the director.

"However, this will never take away any great consideration that Inter has towards Crespo."

Branca, who played his part in luring Quaresma to San Siro, had a few words on the club’s latest signing as he tried to deflect attentions from the turbulence Crespo's exclusion has caused within the side.

"Our transfer campaign has been concluded in the greatest ways. We made three great additions to a group which has always been excellent," concluded Branca.

The Nerazzurri will be hoping to keep up the good work as they continue to hunt for silverware this term.

Mourinho Delighted By Quaresma Arrival

Inter boss Jose Mourinho has spoken of his delight after the club completed the signing of Porto winger Ricardo Quaresma.

The 25-year-old had been one of Mourinho’s main targets this summer, but after a soap opera that seemed to drag on for an eternity, a deal was finally done just 24 hours before the closure of the transfer window.

When my son ,use to support Fiorentina,and he wanted a shirt of battistuta,I use to tell him eighter I buy you one of Ronaldo or nothing at all.

Now a days he cries when inter lose,lately he isn't crying much 5 matches in 3 seasons isn't what you call much.
