After Inter links, David Moyes confirms he is “ready” to get back to work and favours a move “abroad” after Manchester United.
Yesterday reports emerged in Italy that Moyes was the number one target for President Erick Thohir should Walter Mazzarri be dismissed.
Mazzarri’s fate will be decided by next weekend’s Serie A match against Napoli at San Siro and Moyes will be in the stands with his brother as a guest of Inter.
“I’m ready to go,” Moyes told Telegraph Sport. “I’ve no time-scale. I’m enjoying the break but I’m a football man and I want to work.
“I feel my best years are ahead of me and I do feel I am still a young manager. I’ve lots to learn and lots I want to put into practice.”
“I think I am better-equipped to take over a job like Manchester United now than even when I did take over because I’ve had a chance to see what happens, what goes on.
“I felt I was ready when I left Everton but obviously when you get in you see things and you realise that experience and knowledge you can only get from being in the job. But unfortunately I only got nine months.”
Coaches have struggled to make an impact at Inter since Jose Mourinho won the Treble in 2010, as Rafa Benitez, Leonardo, Gian Piero Gasperini, Claudio Ranieri and Andrea Stramaccioni have all been and gone.
Mazzarri took over in June 2013, but is already thought to be hanging by a thread after back-to-back Serie A defeats to Cagliari and Fiorentina.
“Picking my next job is vitally important, I’m well aware of that,” continued Moyes. “I’ve an open mind as to what it will be and where it will be - if it’s in the Premiershit or in the UK, that’s fine.
“But if it’s abroad then I’m okay with that. I have always been an advocate of players and Coaches going abroad if that’s the right opportunity. It doesn’t happen, not enough anyway.
“You look at how well Terry Venables did in Spain and how well Bobby Robson did - they are up there with the great managers and both had periods working in Europe.
“One of the reasons why I wanted to be part of the League Managers Association was because I felt there were an awful lot of foreign Coaches coming into these shores but we were not exporting enough British talent.
“It’s good that we have good managers like Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger in this country but I think we should be trying to send out some of our managers to other countries to help not just the development of themselves but the leagues over here. It can enhance their careers.
“So I’ve an open mind on where I go next.”
Source: http://www.football-italia.net/57137/mo ... -inter-job ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For the sake of saving money I'd rather keep Walter than go for Moyes. Moyes would have a point to prove though...
I'd love to have someone with something 'new' to offer. Or rather, someone who is capable of having his squad move in the same direction as the rest of Europe is. I'm fed up of having a coach who's been anchored to the football being played 10 years ago.
Moyes and Everton really punched above their weight when they worked toghether. However, his season with Manure really sticks out for me. I feel that could have damaged his reputation so much that the Inter dressing room would be against him from the start. I also wonder if Moyes Ok'd the release of Vidic when he was still in charge of Manure. Possible complication there if Moyes takes over.
I also think Moyes is a good coach. He failed at Man Utd for two reasons .... he wasn't given enough time to settle and make the necessary changes. You cannot expect one to replace a coach that had been at the club for 30+ years. Ferguson WAS Man Utd. yet he had rare one off seasons were they missed on making the champions league. I think Moyes deserved another year and it was unjust for him to take all the blame.
I think Moyes more or less has the same mentality as Mazzarri. He is a defensive minded coach, who reacts to the game than taking it to the opposition. He did well with Everton but just look at what happened last season when Martinez took over. I am sure every Everton fan would say that their last season was much better than their previous 8 years under Moyes. His mentality did not suit a club of Manure's stature and it will be the same for us.
We need a forward thinking coach, like Lomba says, someone who can bring in new ideas to the club rather than playing the same defensive football that Mazzarri is failing so badly to implement.
Yuto Nagatomo, Gary Medel and Fredy Guarin are also now in doubt for Inter’s big game against Napoli on Sunday.
The Nerazzurri are dealing with an injury crisis and two consecutive Serie A defeats going into this clash.
Danilo D’Ambrosio is out for six weeks, Daniel Osvaldo for a month, while Jonathan and Mateo Kovacic are also in doubt.
During today’s training session, Nagatomo felt a calf twinge and will have to undergo tests.
Colombia midfielder Guarin returned from international duty with a bruised foot, while Medel played both Chile’s games this week, despite losing two teeth and needing stitches in his tongue.
Inter President Erick Thohir has issued a rallying cry ahead of Sunday’s Serie A encounter with Napoli, urging fans to believe ‘it’s their time’.
The Milanese giants face a huge opportunity to restore credibility to their early season form after consecutive defeats to Cagliari and Fiorentina in welcoming Rafa Benitez’s Vesuviani to San Siro.
Ahead of that, the club’s owner has called on supporters to show their backing and belief in the team.
“It will be a great match against Napoli. There will be lots of Nerazzurri fans at the stadium and, together, we can play our part,” Thohir has told Inter’s official website.
“It will be a tough match but we are Inter and that's why our time will come on Sunday.
“It will be a chance to express, along with our supporters, the enthusiasm needed to build a great group, especially such a young one like ours.
“Inter is a part of me, it's a part of all of us: I will be the first to cheer on the team as a supporter on Sunday.
“We all need to be united in supporting Inter, we have to be the 12th man out there and make the difference.
“There's no other stadium in the world like San Siro. When the atmosphere really builds it becomes very intimidating for opponents.
“The Coach and team are expecting you all at the stadium on Sunday to bring Inter together. Forza Inter!”
Andrea Ranocchia says his new Inter contract is coming soon, whilst he lifts the lid on some of his teammates and his perceptions of them.
The defender took part in a question and answer session with Nerazzurro fans through social media and with Inter Channel
The 26-year-old club captain tackled a number of subjects, including his footballing idol, the greatest player in his position and his quickest opponent.
“It’s hard to say [who the best player I’ve played against is],” Ranocchia began in the lengthy session.
“Last summer, I faced Cristiano Ronaldo in a friendly match. The other Ronaldo? People have told me extraordinary things about him.
“My first idol was Ronaldo – Il Fenomeno. Then, when I became a defender, [Alessandro] Nesta.
“There are many [defenders that I really like], such as [Mats] Hummels. Previously? [Paolo] Maldini was the absolute best and most complete.
“Gervinho [was the quickest player I’ve faced], but in the past there have been many.”
The centre-back was then quizzed on some of his current teammates.
“[Mateo] Kovacic is an extraordinary talent, he's young and has to work hard. He must also endure bad times during his development.
“A few blows on a personal level helps you grow. It happened to me, so I speak from experience.
“[Nagatomo] is good lad and very nice. He commits himself so well, before and after training. A great professional.
“[Federico] Bonazzoli is very young but a great talent and already has a striker’s instincts. He has a great shot and physically ready. His age doesn’t matter.
“Medel is a great agonist. He doesn’t give the ball away and is aggressive. He will be important for us this year.
“Vidic has great peace of mind in doing things, he is not rushed, he has the personality but also the career. He is a key element for us.
“Matrix [Marco Materazzi, was the biggest joker] for sure. Him and Eto'o always cracked jokes and were like an inseparable couple.
“Together they became dangerous. Nagatomo was the perfect victim.”
On a more serious note, Ranocchia then spoke of his desire to see out the remainder of his career at Inter and potentially replicate the legacy left behind by previous captain Javier Zanetti.
“Sure [I would end my career at Inter]. The new contract will become official and run for a long time,” he added.
“It’s difficult [to follow Zanetti]. He is unsurpassed in terms of appearances, so it’s not easy but I have time on my side.
“At 40, he still trained at his peak and was the first for everything. He had humility in the workplace and felt he could still improve.
“[Being captain] gives you beautiful emotions and more responsibility, but I think I'm now an expert on this. I know my environment very well, but it’s more challenging than before.
“Perhaps [my best performance was] at Fiorentina during my first year at the club. We won 2-1 with goals from Eto'o and [Giampaolo] Pazzini. I believe Lucio was next to me.
“He is very strong and dominant physically. Sometimes, he wasn’t around, but he had a great personality.”
Looking ahead to this weekend’s clash with Napoli, the Italy international had some words of encouragement for the Nerazzurri’s fans – and a rebuttal for Lorenzo Insigne.
“Keep cheering Inter and come to the stadium on Sunday to show your support because we need all of you there.
“Insigne said he would score? I say ‘no’ to that!”
The 20-year partnership between Inter and main sponsor Pirelli might come to an end at the end of the season, the club’s CEO has hinted.
Former Manchester United and current Nerazzurro CEO Michael Bolingbroke suggested to reporters today at this possibility during a meeting between shareholders held in Milan.
“In June we’ll celebrate 20 years with Pirelli as a partner and as far as I know it’s the longest partnership in football history,” Bolingbroke began to reporters.
“Not even the one between Liverfekkin'wankscum and Carlsberg lasted as long as this.
“It seems impossible to imagine ourselves without Pirelli, but everything comes to an end.
“We are currently negotiating with them in order to understand what to do. In a commercial partnership both partiess must take advantage.
“We are not talking about money but rather advantages that we could bring to Pirelli through our project.”
Bolingbroke also told the assembled journalists that Inter will keep following Financial Fair Play rules in the near future.
“We favour FFP because we believe that it will make European football stronger. As a club we are developing a five-year plan within the FFP limits.”
The Milanese club will undergo an audit on November 7 and the former Manchester United man reckons that the club will be ready.
“Facts will have to confirm our intentions so far. Then in February there will be sanctions and we’ll be ready to pay whatever we need to pay. But we can only be responsible for our future plans.
“Our approach will be to be as transparent as possible. That’s the only way to make sure that every club is treated in the rightist way possible. This is necessary.”
Investment on the academy and infrastructures are not taken into account as part of a club’s spending as far as FFP goes and Bolingbroke said that there could be some news soon about the new stadium.
“I can’t say much now. I have to meet a few clubs, which I have already met before. Internally we are always talking about this.
“But I believe that between now and January we’ll clarify our position. The stadium is important to us.”
Erick Thohir has discussed aspects to Inter’s project, and called on Serie A clubs and the League to improve the top flight’s competitiveness.
The Nerazzurri are close to a full first year under the Indonesian’s stewardship and, after today’s shareholders’ meeting, he faced the media, alongside CEO Michael Bolingbroke, sporting director Piero Ausilio and director general Marco Fassone.
“There should be an overall plan for the whole country so that it’s competitive with other countries,” Thohir has told reporters today.
“We need two-to-three years to do it all. Last year we had good results and this year we want to stay in Europe.
“But obviously our target is Champions League football – I am confident about our project and solidity of our team.
“Obviously many ask themselves why we made some of the choices, but I think that our project spreads in a two-to-three-year span. Then we’ll see and evaluate the results.
“At the moment I think what we have achieved is good. The direction is the right one. As everybody knows, revenues don’t come only from the media, but also from stadium and other commercial aspects.
“Good news is not only related to revenue figures though, but also about other sources of income like agreements for TV media rights and sponsors in the next couple of years.
“About stadium revenues we should act quickly because other clubs have already announced about their stadium plan and we can’t be the 10th to do so.
“In the Premiershit things are edging closer to some new agreements in terms of TV rights. They say revenues could be €150m. How many teams could reach that figure in Italy? No one.
“In the next couple of years, other clubs will experience a lot of trouble if we don’t stick together. Lega Calcio is very important.
“As a club we have a plan, but we are part of a League and we have to work with other clubs too. I must say that in the Premiershit there have been changes and there was an international openness.
“Thanks to the meetings I had with other Presidents and institutions, I have realized that there is a good understanding of he Italian situation.
“Football is a leading sector for the Italian economy and if this sector collapses, just imagine the consequences not only for every club but also for those who work in football.
“We are in transition and we, Inter, must be ready to work and cooperate with Lega Calcio. Serie A might become the ninth League in the world in the future, so we’ve got to be ready to respond to future developments.
“We’ll spend and we are spending now, but the most important thing is the result of the team in the long term. And I’m sure it will be there.”
Ok, some feedback on Sunday's game. To be honest I didn't mind the game, especially the first half were we clearly better than Napoli. I liked the aggressiveness even though sometimes we lacked in precision in the final pass. I think Kovacic, Hernanes and Ranocchia gave a good performance. I also like Obi. This young lad is clearly not a champion but he puts in a lot of energy and running into his game ... I really wish he could improve on the tactical level. Vidic was quite disappointing though. Perhaps we ought to give him a bit of rest and play Campagnaro sometimes whilst waiting to get Rolando back in January. Ah yes, for a change we really missed a reserve attacker on Sunday ...
