Udinese's Sanchez had a problem in training yesterday and is being assessed. On our side, Cassetti rejoined the group after not training yesterday, Juan did separate training, and J Sergio, Menez and Vucinic did not train today. Ouch. Romanews is predicting all of them to be available for Saturday, with the exception of JS.

I just realized the game is Saturday this week, so I think I'm going to miss half of it.

I have a question for everyone here. As we are all aware Danielle De Rossi has not been himself for quite some time. I know he apparently has a lot going on in his private life and it seems to be affecting his on the pitch performance. It pains me to watch him decline like this. He's not the same player who after bossing the mid-field in Madrid in the 1-2 win over Real prompted the Spanish press to call him "Gattuso dressed in Armani"! What do you guys think? Will he snap out of it? Or worse do you think he really wants to leave Roma? I'm interested in your opinions as he has consistently been one of my favourite Roma players and he is our future captain.

Gasperini drops Roma hint



Gian Piero Gasperini has hinted he could lead the new Roma next season. “There is nothing definitive right now and I won’t exclude it.”
Vincenzo Montella has been in charge since Claudio Ranieri resigned, but there is no word on whether he’ll remain on the bench after new patron Thomas Di Benedetto takes charge.

“Roma? I can say that for the moment, as far as I am concerned, there is nothing definitive right now,” Gasperini told Unico Grande Amore radio.

“I won’t exclude something that could in prospect develop.”

Among the potential candidates to lead the revamped Roma are Chelsea’s Carlo Ancelotti.

Gasperini was sacked by Genoa mid-season and replaced by Davide Ballardini, but is well known for his attacking style of football.

The Coach was asked if his past as manager of the Juventus youth team would lead to problems with the Roma faithful.

“I don’t know if I could be considered liked or disliked by fans, because I want to be judged for my work.

“It is pleasing to be linked with top clubs in the media, because it means my work is having its effect, even if one can lose a bench during a season.”

He was asked outside the Villa Stuart, hobbling along on crutches, and was probably a bit emotional and so decided to finally comment on it, as like he said its talked about a lot. And he said he probably will leave for personal reasons, but nothing is decided yet.

look, put yourself in his shoes. his next contract most likely will be the last major deal of his career, and what has he won?

he's not selling out, ultimately he has given his everything for roma, you guys have taken him as one of your own. but as every other footballer, he wants to hang up his boots with some meaningful silverware, which he believes he will achieve with a 'bigger' team. you can replace 'bigger' with any adjective that describes a team with a more focused management than roma.

it is a sad day for you guys, i'm not gonna say i understand. but hopefully it will be the last time you go through this bullshit because of the ineptitude of your management. if everything goes to plan, you guys won't miss mexes for too long. anyhow, life goes on . . .

Absolutely Shinpin, I said similar in my last post (which I may have edited to add after yours). Next to none amount of blame can be laid at the feet of Mexes. Some may argue if he truly loved the club he'd stay no matter what, but he has shown as much loyalty to this club as can be expected from any man in modern football these days, if not more (home-grown players apart), so much so that we all consider him an adopted Romanista. He has long been accepted into the romanisti family, and will go down as a legend in the club. I don't think there will be any hostility from the Ultra's toward him should he leave.

You're right in saying he wants a lucrative contract in what will (presumably) be his last chance to get one. That is fair enough. We had our chance to offer him such a deal (more than a chance, we had fuckin years) – but we never showed enough confidence in him and never offered him one, and certainly didn't do enough to try to get him stay in these last few months, so he's very much entitled to listen around. Not to mention all the money we threw at the likes of Adriano (almost twice as much as what Philippe earned) and other bums. And you're right in saying he wants some meaningful silverware before he hangs up his boots – there is nothing wrong with that either – and he probably will have a better chance at that at a club like Milan than to stay around at Roma and a new project, one which make take a couple of years before its ready to seriously challenge for major honours.

Its more than a sad day, its tragic, to be honest. He's not gone yet, and he may not – a fools hope, maybe – but seeing one of my favourite players over the last number of years in this situation is desperately sad to see. Worse than when Samuel left, in fact.

So, he's gone and there is nothing that can be done. Just more carnage from the Rosella Sensi era. Ranieri also has some responsibility.
