With all of the organizational difficulties over the course of the last several years, the team has done well given the limitations. The relative success lies with a nucleus of players who have been with the club for five years or more. This nucleus has aged. It is difficult to be a coach at Roma. The club never had the money to signficantly reinforce the squad, and it appeared to me that at least from an organization standpoint, that there was no emphasis on developing some of our younger players. While I understand that loaning out players is part and parcel of the way business is done, with Roma, it was more of a way to raise meager funds to continue to operate.
I have said that the coach gets too much credit when a team is winning, and too much blame when a team is losing. I still believe that today. While one would be constrained to defend Ranieri this season, to place the majority of the blame on his shoulders is in my opinon, a mistake. Roma's problems go much deeper than the coach. Totti, has, and always will be a player who can force a coach out of his job in this city. Like it or not, he still has tremendous power within the organization and of course, with the fans. This power is never used wisely. As incomparable as Totti has been at Roma, I personally feel that he has abused that power. I find him too often arrogant, indulgent, juvenile and generally not a very nice person. He has never possessed the ability to unite the team and has never served as an example to other players. More often than not, he has served as a divisive force within the squad, while intimidating management in the process for a decade. It is not an exaggeration to claim that to date, he has been a poor Captain.
Many coaches, including Ranieri, do not believe that any player is bigger than the team as a whole. At Roma, Totti is bigger than the team and the club, and he knows that better than anybody. Therefore, I firmly believe that our Captain must take on some of the blame for this terrible turn of events which have effectively ended Roma's season and probably the coaching career of Claudio Ranieri.

No Maro I never blamed him before this year. He is not responsible for everything but don't tell me his acts have not affected other players and the team negatively. At least this is what we can guess from the outside. I am not even talking about his performances on the pitch here. I am talking about the captain. Ranieri has tried to do without him and we all have seen what happened. So what is the next coach going to do? Totti is more important than Roma and it should stop for the good of this team. Or do you think he should play at least half of the games next season no matter who are the players at the coach disposal? Today as Ranieri is leaving, I just believe it is also time to think about other possible reasons of these bad results. Sure Ranieri has not taken the right decisions recently, and some other players have not been at their best, but to me Totti should take SOME of the blame as he has not shown he was acting for the good of Roma. He has acted like many other "professional" players: selfish, arrogant, and irrespectful.
Vincenzo Montella Appointed New Roma Coach As Claudio Ranieri Is Replaced- Report
Vincenzo Montella will be Roma's new coach until the end of term after taking over from Claudio Ranieri.
Montella arrived at Trigoria on Monday morning to discuss his terms with the club.
And while an official announcement is pending, Sky Sport Italia reports Montella has been chosen to lead the players forward.
The Italian welcomed the idea of taking over until the end of the season during the meeting with Rosella Sensi.
Ranieri resigned on Sunday evening, and he was seen leaving Trigoria just before Montella arrived this morning.
The former striker, 36, is expected to be unveiled on Tuesday.
As coach of the under 15 side, Montella currently earns €500,000 per annum and his deal runs until 2012, but details over his switch to first team coach are undisclosed.
Update, 13:55CET: Roma confirm Ranieri resignation officially.
A statement released by the club reads: "Roma communicate to have received a request to resign as first team coach from Claudio Ranieri.
"In light of this, his contract, due to expire on June 30, 2011 has been resolved following a consensual agreement. Roma would like to thank Claudio Ranieri for his work during his time at the helm."

So Jeff is our new manager. I knew that meet up and chat we had about the team and tactics would serve him well, but I didn't think he'd fly straight to Rome to become manager. Fair play to ye son, lookin pretty sharp:
Poor old Raneri doesn't, he had to sell his real car:
I see there's still no official note on the , no real surprise there.
I hope the job interests him as little as tactics do so that this whole bad dream and end...you can't knock his determination though, he had about 4 goals in his last 100 appearances and his life had to be threatened before he retired.
That is one of the better articles I have ever read in the English language on Roma. This is one of my favorite parts of the piece which provides non Roma fans with a little perspective:
"No other city on earth has a daily paper devoted exclusively to one club. Plus another sports daily which, no matter what, devotes a minimum of four broadsheet papers to the team every single day. Plus half a dozen local TV stations whose "talk shows" pontificate daily on the goings on at Trigoria. Plus three sportsradio stations that talk almost exclusively Roma (with a smattering of Lazio), day and night. And all these media outlets are there to serve a public which devours every shred of news and questions every single step, even the most innocent. Julio Baptista, who played for Seville, Sao Paulo, Real Madrid and Arsenal says only Madrid comes close in terms of media coverage and fan pressure."
Incredible, is it not gents. Roma can be a signficant force in European football but the incompetence of our shortsighted owner has served as a major barrier to the break-through success that our fan base craves. It is quite frankly amazing at what the Sensi family squandered. Given the unmitigated destruction of our 2010-2011 campaign, I am starting to warm to the idea of these foreign owners. Perhaps I have had enough. Our fans base has been beaten down to an emotional pulp. Maybe we finally deserve something for a change. We will provide the heart and the passion that defines Roma. How about some consistent leadership from management by individuals who act and behave like professionals. It's time to turn the page and begin a new era in Roma history.

Frankly, I can't beleive how Ranieri's donkey decisions this season are being tied back to Totti for some reason.
He doesn't get to play that much this season, and so he's angry with it. Big deal... how is that an excuse for Ranieri's decisions and man management this season? Sure Totti deserves a bit of blame.. but so does the entire squad. Ranieri is not a school boy, if he had benched Totti the entire season and won the scudetto, he'd still have had this job. Bottom line is he helped dig his own grave as much as anybody else did. I can't say I don't sympathise with Totti, or a number of our disgruntled players. I have still preferred watching this team play with Totti on the pitch rather than off it. Yes he's the captain, but he's not a bleedin saint.. obviously he is not going to like being benched, especially if he thinks he can make a difference. Yes.. lets all fault him for being ambitious and for wanting to be on he pitch to help his team win some points.
Yes Aba Ranieri is to blame... as well as all players and Totti in particular. I do not believe Ranieri could have left Totti the entire season on the bench and keep his job. No one can do that at Roma apparently. We know the influence Totti has on other players, on fans, on the management, and the manager. We know that although he wants the best for Roma, recently he has not been able to fulfill the expectations we have from him. Do you think great players realise it when they have lost their speed, their best abilities in front of a defense...I think it is very hard to accept all that for a professional player, and Totti must have difficulties to accept that it will be time soon for him to let other players replace him and do the job. I guess he is not doing this purposely but the time will come (or has come) when a manager will be able to tell him that he is no longer the "captain", and then no longer the best player week in week out on the pitch. I wish I was wrong but so far I think others should play instead of him. When there r no injuries, Vucinic, Menez and Borriello should start without a doubt, that is my opinion from what I have seen this year. Anyway, it s gonna be interesting to see how Montella handle this group of players. Will Totti and others behave the same as they have done with Ranieri???...maybe they won't, or maybe it will be worst.
