This has never been confirmed but Francesco Totti, who was playing for Italy that night, has now conceded that this was in fact what happened.

Well, I see Maro's only going to have six days instead of seven in which to go on the piss and enjoy some nice quality wine while in Trastevere, as they have banned the sale of all alcohol for the whole day of Tuesday. I presume that includes wine anyway (would one not even be allowed a glass with one's dinner, like!?!). Seems a bit extreme to me.
