Gio, my choice as I said a few posts back was and still is Carlo Ancelotti...but we all know that won't happen unless we have money to spend. Some people here don't like his style but he is a proven winner beyond anything our present mister or a number of others will ever achieve!
I don't want a non-Italian coach either and as you know, in his case he goes two better than just being a paesano, being both a Romano and an ex-lupo! My fear is if Ranieri can't reverse our fortunes, that we in haste take on Leonardo, Donadoni, or some other no hoper. We will then only be swapping one bad scene for another. As for Hiddink, that was Vocegiallorossa talking. Even without the ugly memories of South Korea, I always regarded him as an arrogant s.o.b. That aside, it's a well enough known fact he wouldn't come to Italia, and we couldn't currently afford him anyway, so you have no worries!
-------------------------------------
A few of the Roma websites mentioned that a clearly angry Rosella "confronted" the players at Trigoria over the loss to Basilea.
From Mediaset: The details are very brief. Apparently there has been a recent debate about giving up the ritiro and Ranieri got La Sensi to back down on that one. She hasn't changed her opinion despite giving in to our mister, referring to it as a "stronzata!" I'm not sure if she meant the ritiro or the fact that she had to give in to Ranieri. Probably both...

Romanews: We know about Adriano's ongoing complaint. He didn't train today, nor did De Rossi and Ménez. The good news is Vučinić did and is available to play. Although it's early doors, they have given details of our upcoming match against Parma...
PROSSIMA PARTITA: Parma-Roma (8°giornata di campionato di Serie A, Stadio Ennio Tardini, Domenica 24 Ottobre, ore 12:30) INDISPONIBILI: Adriano, De Rossi IN DUBBIO: Julio Sergio, Ménez. SQUALIFICATI: - PROBABILE FORMAZIONE: (4-4-2) Lobont; Cassetti, Burdisso, Juan, Castellini; Taddei, Pizarro, Brighi, Vučinić; Totti, Borriello. BALLOTTAGGI: Perrotta-Vučinić, Perrotta- Ménez, Ménez-Vučinić.

Now don't anyone say I don't give plenty of warning!
Remember, this game is the early Sunday kick-off, 12:30CET!
Mediaset text service and the mid day Studio Sport program mentioned today that there is to be unofficial contact with Leonardo as a replacement for Signor Claudio. La Sensi sent a message boy to sound him out. Oh nice! If it happens that he comes to us, we better hope just because he wasn't ready for Milan, that doesn't mean he couldn't work for us.
I can't think of much else to say in a positive sense.
I would welcome him. Milan were better under him in 2009/10 than under Ancelotti in 2008/09 with basically the same squad, I think he would suit the culture of Roma and as a younger coach one would expect him to improve over the next few years.
I'm glad to see after several name changes, the most recent being LaRomasiamonoi, one of my favourite websites has reverted to its original Romagiallorossa!
It's called tradition. Not just Italian but Roman tradition! So there are those among us here who would abandon our heritage and values on the altar of success brought about by becoming an Inter lookalike? Which incidentally is not guaranteed to work out for us in practice...
A foreign coach? A non-Italian player roster majority? Bah! Because we are in a negative phase? A bad Roma scene is the mid 1990's...a lot worse and not only did we survive as Romans, we came back and took the riches from the bastardi toscani if only for one beautiful season, 2000-01! We haven't done so badly since then, let's not forget, given we are rated only fourth of importance in Italia...and what of the two glorious (by our standards) years we had under Spalletti, 2006-08, when football pundits everywhere lauded us for not just our exciting football but for remaining largely Italian in the face of change all around us? Beating Madrid home and away under those circumstances meant far more in terms of pride and prestige than anything achieved by a team which is Italian in name only.
An Italian ownership couldn't provide stability and success? Don't make me laugh! You think Angelini for example built a pharmaceutical empire by being a clown?
I'll say this. If a poll was conducted among tifosi giallorossi the world over, does anyone seriously think the majority vote would be in favour of a non Italian Roma? We all want success. But that can be got by Italian means. Those of you who think Romani will give up their heritage easily are deluding themselves!
In il calcio Italiano, Roma is unique. Only Napoli and Palermo in a sense come anywhere near to resembling us and even they fall far short. The city of Roma is the heart of Italy and our football club is her main representative in sport. It's not like Milano with its cosmopolitan influence through fashion and entertainment. How can we possibly renounce our Italian majority in ownership, management staff, and players? We are well over halfway to doing that now in our player roster and a fat lot of good it's doing us! Ask the Roma fans at Radio City as reported by Romagiallorossa earlier this evening! Of course we must have a minority non Italian influence. Fresh ideas are always welcome.
But those of you who want Roma to go down that road of breaking from her roots, just think deeply on how you'd react if someone asked you to compromise your own heritage, be it English, Arabic, American, Jewish, whatever, on the altar of at best, temporary success!
I now, as has Gio, said my piece. Though we personally can't prevent it, don't expect us to willingly accept an unrecognisable Roma in the future if that is what we are fated to do.
so you're saying Angelini can provide stability and success because he's Italian?? then what's Rosella?? (crude remarks aside)
anyone see the highlight on Inter 4-3 Tottenham?? i like Gareth Bale... in fact, i like him alot. what he has, i wish Roma had. his pace and attitude towards the game is tops unlike Menez. im sick of seeing my team go down so easily to look for the foul. Totti is doing that like annoyingly much lately. id wish he stopped. it's kinda embarassing when he does that and we still lose. win/lose it dont look good when he's doing it.
Having a foreign owner does not necessarily mean abandoning the historical and local culture of the club nor a team of entirely foreign players. Several times under Sensi we have had a majority of players on the pitch who were not Italian.
I would expect that most Roma fans want the most able owner in all respects, whether they be Italian or foreign. If Angelini turns out be that, then he is welcome.
My point was based on a more general view that Serie A clubs appear to be managed relatively poorly compared to other leading European countries.
Tension Grows Between Roma & Claudio Ranieri, With Axe Imminent - Report
Claudio Ranieri has picked the short straw as tension between him and Roma threatens to boil over after the club failed to deny reports that they had opened dialogue with Leonardo.
Reports on Thursday suggested Roma had spoken with the Brazilian as a possible replacement for Ranieri if he fails to banish the poor form that has plunged the club into a nosedive.
Six defeats in 11 games across the board have been met with a backlash by Roma chiefs who expect quick change. And time is running out.
Il Corriere dello Sport claims Ranieri is furious with the club after they failed to deny the reports, despite his request for an official statement to be published - that was refused.
And he now faces a battle to fight increasingly aggressive reports claiming he has two matches to save his career.
However, Ranieri has been shown a hand by Francesco Totti, who has backed his coach.
"We want Ranieri to stay with us. The coach is untouchable. We have to come out of this situation," he said.
Roma clash with Parma at the weekend, but the feeling in Rome is that the fire burning away at Ranieri's future has already been lit.
Patriot: the person who can holler the loudest without knowing what he is hollering about. - Mark Twain
Ed, thanks! I knew you would understand, being the Irish patriot you are. Heritage counts for something even nowadays!
Gio, yes, Caltagirone is keeping very much a low profile. I had wondered if the hold up with Angelini is that he wants to not be the sole source of money to be sunk into our club. Perhaps that's so but now we know there are other cogent reasons including the Italian legal system. This "interlocutory" order isn't helping the speed of the matter.
Pocari, you should know me better than that by now. Of course I'm not saying we should stay totally Italian at all costs, even to the detriment of our club. If we remember total fools like Gaucci at Perugia and Vittorio Cecchi Gori with La Viola, then we certainly don't want to see that with Roma and it's safe to assume Unicredit wouldn't either. Sawiris as our chief shirt sponsor is already funding us through Wind. If we can't get a responsibly businesslike Italian to buy us then he is a very reasonable option. But Angelini and Caltagirone have that advantage in wanting the very best for us..."Cuore Romani!" Roman hearts!
As for a coach...a different matter to say the least.
Mediaset today runs the piece which reiterates the Leonardo suggestion is the brainchild of La Sensi, much to Ranieri's irritation. In view of Totti's recent show of support for our under fire mister, I wonder what he really thinks, something we'll probably never know. Apparently Leonardo has since come forward and stated he doesn't yet want to return to Italy, it's too soon after leaving Milan.
I'm just noticing you beat me to that one, Jeff!
James, what do you make of the Carlos Dunga rumour? If we want defensive tactics, he is certainly our man!
He would be if we wanted that, but I much prefer more offensive football which I think, ultimately, is more successful too as well as being more attractive to watch. I think Dunga would also be a poor fit given the current composition of our squad.
I understand why some people prefer a Roman/Italian owner, and if they tick the boxes of what we want - in particular to help the club generate more revenue through improved commercial operations and, of course, a stadium owned by the club - then that is fine, but I think it is presumptuous to think that a foreigner might not be a better option, depending on their resources, expertise and how genuine their interest is.
