Here is a name that everybody needs to remember. Francesco Serafino. He was in the Roma youth system thanks to Bruno Conti but he left Italy for Argentina last year because his Dad needed work. He is scheduled to come back to Italy and I certainly hope Bruno can get him back to Rome.

Rodrigo Taddei...today's news from RomaVocegiallorossa was that he trained alone and the calf muscle and tendon problem he has been complaining of caused him some dizziness and pain. As we know, it was hoped to have him back for the Inter match, then Cluj, and there are doubts of him being available for Napoli. On the other hand, La Roma24.it is running a piece on him being ready for Napoli. I would think that means he may be named in the squad but no more than that.


Valon Behrami...again we hear that Daniele Pradè hopes to bring him to us in January. I'm not sure how he is progressing, being currently out injured with Fulham. I must ask my old friends in London for an update. FromRomaVocegiallorossa


Marco Borriello...or to be more precise, il nuovo re di Roma, the new king of Rome as he is now being described! I don't care what handle they hang on him as long as he helps us win matches! Mediaset tells us he will play from the start on Sunday.

Lupa, you spoke just as I did a few posts ago, in saying it's likely the team will far more easily adjust to Totti playing less than he will handle playing less. He can say what he does now about knowing when it's time to go. Being actually faced with it is quite another matter and to be frank, I'm certain Ranieri is or at any rate was hoping Adriano would be his replacement or at least his phase out mode.

Big Fatso had to leave training today with a bruised left ankle. Football Italia who seem to never know their arses from their elbows say it happened this morning but as the usual Roma websites tell us it happened against Cluj, then I tend to go for that! He is now a doubt for Sunday.

Taddei left training early to go for more medical tests.

De Rossi, Perrotta and Pizarro weren't seen at all.



Aside from exceptional cases, I try to never place any great importance on just who is refereeing a match which involves us or the history of results against a certain team. Too often we have seen a scoreline which has rendered those stats worthless...

LaRoma24.it mentioned that we haven't actually lost a league match home or away to Napoli since season 1997-98 which was a 2-0 defeat at the San Paolo. Sunday would not be a good day to see that stat change! It's worth noting that Tagliavento has been in charge of 16 matches concerning us, against varied opposition. Of those, 13 have been wins and 3 have been draws.

The big question, for me, and related to the discussion on the last few pages, is who starts upfront, or to be more precise, who doesn't. have all three of Vucinic, Totti and Borriello in their line-up but that would be very unlike Ranieri for a tricky away game. We shall see. This one is on live on Setanta Ireland over here so nicely set up.

Ed, you'll have long since noticed I try to second guess il mister because it's his call which is at times annoying to say the least. But...my money has been on a Borriello-Totti front two for days now, although I really wanted to get a bit nearer the weekend before saying so.

I think he will start Ménez to play behind them and send Vučinić on as a later sub for Totti. I'm sure you're right, there's little chance of seeing a more thrusting attack unless Napoli have a player sent off or something like that. Ranieri being what he is, would it surprise you if we are a goal to the good that he will then take Ménez off, leave Vuci on the bench and bring on Baptista?

Sadly, I must begin by joining our Capitan' who has, via his website, sent "a sincere embrace" to Carlo Ancelotti who has just lost his father. Those of you who have glanced through our Miko Romane...Galleria di Arte will know how special a place this man holds in my heart, a true lupo, having spent eight years with us back in the 1980's and I treasure the film clips I have of him playing for both Roma, and la nazionale!

...and now some observations made by our mister this evening, as set out by Romanews:

Much as he is enjoying the good feeling of "bonhomie" which exists on the surface following our two recent victories, he knows there are still problems to be resolved. The lack of balance being his main concern. He notes the improving patrnership between Pizarro and De Rossi and wants to see our midfield raise its rhythm. He resents the accusation of changing formations as often as he does his socks and insists he must find that equilibrium!

Totti had this to add: “The victory is the better medicine in order to try to recover.”


There are comments regarding Rosella, Unicredit, and Italpetroli in all the Roma websites but I've chosen to wait until I have something more definite to post...




As for Sunday and our trip to Fuorigrotta, I'm hoping Napoli's exertions tonight will leave them sufficiently drained to make our job that bit easier. They went three goals down, away to Steaua Bucharest inside sixteen minutes. If i zingari rumeni hadn't had a man sent off on thirty minutes, who knows what might have happened. 3-2 down and eight minutes into stoppage time, Cavani scored the equaliser! I didn't expect Napoli to win this evening but I never saw that scoreline either!




Ed, as an afterthought to your above post. It wasn't until tonight, watching Delio Rossi and listening to Paolo Di Canio co-commentate on Rete 4 during the Palermo-Lausanne match (1-0 Palermo) that I realised how much I still dislike those two characters. You know, I could easily put up with Behrami by comparison if he joins us and helps us win matches!

Rosella Sensi in hot water after referee criticism

Roma president Rosella Sensi has been ordered to appear before an FIGC disciplinary panel to explain her comments towards referee Carmine Russo after the Giallorossi’s 2-1 defeat at Brescia on 22 September.

After a fiery encounter, in which the capital side were denied two penalties and Roma saw defender Philippe Mexes sent off for what looked liked a perfectly good tackle which Russo deemed to be illegal, subsequently awarding the home side a spot kick. A furious Sensi claimed that “the officials are blind, Russo’s display was damaging to the reputation of good referees and the federation”

After the game, Sensi headed a Roma witch-hunt to try to get the official suspended whilst further investigation took place. In a short statement on Corriere Dello Sport’s website, calcio’s governing body announced that the charge was for “casting doubt on the impartiality and good belief of the official”. A date for the hearing is not yet known.

The great Mirko Vucinic turns 27 today. No doubt he'll be celebrating it in style with victory on Sunday. Its also Baptista's birthday, he's 43 or something. On the mercato front, its Chelsea are stepping up their interest in a January mercato move for Mexes. We really need to get crackin on sorting out his contract before then.

Also, that Russian oil tycoon Fedun has any interest in buying Roma. Thank feck.
