Burdisso's been in Argentina with the national team, no? Or where was the game with Spain? Anyway, he got back a day later than the rest of the European-based boys and so it's been believed all along that Ranieri would be unlikely to use him on Saturday but that he'll almost certainly be involved against the Munchens. Is our game on Tuesday or Wednesday? I'd thought I'd read somewhere it was Wednesday, but then it'd be strange that we're playing in one of the anticipi.
Yeh the alright. Should be a cracker, really looking forward to that game and seeing how the boys perform in the surroundings of the Allianz Arena. But first there's the trip to Sardinia, where we haven't won since 1995, which is crazy. Would a draw be a good result, then? We need to be aiming for all three points after our disappointing opening weekend. Oh yeh I forgot Burdisso was away on international duty, it must of been in Argentina.
Yes Jeff, its a weird one alright. According to , its to do with, amongst other things, "the players' association has become alarmed by the trend of clubs trying to force players to move teams in the last year of their contracts when they are no longer wanted."
Agreed, Red. Players have to have the final say in any proposed transfer and clubs shouldn't be allowed to force players to accept any move. What other "new contractual rules" are the players striking against, do you know? You mentioned something about the length of the winter breaks and fines for players in the SB?
Ok, so both Vucinic and Taddei , Taddei with a 'tendon' problem, not sure about Vucinic, but i didn't think it was that serious. Perhaps Vucinic is just been given a rest, but its a bit of gamble not even having him on the bench, no? And what the hell is wrong with Mexes?
It's up and down at the moment, thredzo, while the new site is bedding in, I guess. In his interview Ranieri explained the absentees simply by saying that the games are close together at the moment and the players aren't quite in shape to cope with them all. Presumably that explains Vooch and Mexes - 180 minutes for their national teams. Taddei's more of a surprise and a loss since he's especially useful after these international breaks. 4-3-1-2, with Menez in front of Perrotta-Pizza-DDR or Menez down one wing and Simone down the other?
I don't know about that, Thomo, seems a bit dubious to drop players entirely for a game at the weekend just because they've played a couple of mid-week international games. I wonder will the likes of Inter drop Cambiasso or Milito for their game this weekend? Sure, Mexes and Vucinic may not be at full-fitness yet this early in the season, but its a big gamble leaving them out altogether. Who can fill in at centre-half if Juan goes down? Who can come off the bench in the second-half if Menez-Totti-Borreillo are struggling and we're a goal down? Perhaps he's resting them for our trip to Bayern (where Ranieri will look to set the side up a lot more defensively with Mexes in and Burdisso at right-full and Taddei at right-midfield etc., much to Tom's distress), but it doesn't look good for tomorrows game.
Of course you "don't know about that," thredzo. How could you? You haven't seen the boys in training, had a chance to talk to them over the past couple of days, and don't have access to whatever monitoring resources the club has for recording the boys' fitness and fatigue. Clearly Ranieri's decided that if Juan goes down, Burdisso Jnr or Cassetti or whoever is going to be a better option than Mexes. And if we need a spark he figures it's more likely to come from Brighi or Baptista or even from Cicinho than from Vooch in the state he is. Or, alternatively, he figures the risk of playing Vooch or Mexes is greater because they might get injured, say, and then we'd have to do without them for more than a weekend. How the fock would I know? All I know is that these are the sorts of calls it's simply impossible to assess from without.
Jaaaaasus, I'm not claiming I could know about that, Thomo. All we can do is speculate – much like how any previews or articles from any newspaper or web source can do. If we're to go by that logic no one should waste time reading or talking about any match previews or post any predicted line-ups, and should wait until we see Ranieri's line-up before talking about the team. But that would be all very boring, now, wouldn't it? Of course our management team know best, but I like to talk about my team and I like to question why Vooch or Mexes aren't going to be playing, but thats just me.
Mexes had strapping around one of his thighs in the second half of Tuesday's game against Bosnia, which supports Ranieir's statement today that the players were omitted for fitness reasons. However, I had seen nothing to suggest Vucinic would not be ready other than the report that he did not train today.
A draw was always about the maximum I expect from this game, but now even that will be more difficult.
Questioning why Vooch or Mexes isn't playing is different from judging the fact. This is surely implicitly a judgement: "seems a bit dubious to drop players entirely for a game at the weekend just because they've played a couple of mid-week international games." The "just" in itself makes an enormous set of assumptions.
This, then, is an entirely illogical move: "If we're to go by that logic no one should waste time reading or talking about any match previews or post any predicted line-ups, and should wait until we see Ranieri's line-up before talking about the team." Going by this logic one should feel quite prepared to read and talk about match previews and projected line-ups. One just needs to be careful about the kinds of things that one can only know so much about. Missing Vooch and Mexes and Taddei makes us vulnerable, no doubt. Should they have been in the 19? That, I do not know.
He must have trained yesterday. I believe I saw something that suggested he'd not taken a full part in training this week, but presumably that was expected on Wednesday and he clearly trained yesterday.
