Roma 'believe' in Mexes
Italian club say they want to keep defender at Stadio Olimpico

Serie A club Roma insist French defender Philippe Mexes will not be leaving the club in the January transfer window. The 28-year-old centre-half has been linked with a move away from the Stadio Olimpico and only has one year left on his current contract.

However, Roma director Giampaolo Montali denies that the former Auxerre man will leave the Italian capital, saying the club 'believe in him'.

He told L'Equipe: "We are very attached to him, we believe in him.

"He still has a year contract with us and to extend it is our priority, I say it clearly and in the coming weeks we shall look. Mexes will not leave Roma in January because he is unsellable."

France international Mexes joined Roma back in 2004, and has made more than 160 league appearances for the Giallorossi.

I'm really happy with the Borriello signing. We can't just wait around waiting for Adriano to lose 3 or 4 stone. A pregnant cow could outpace him at the moment. Borriello is a decent striker. He notches up a fair tally of goals every season and he's a hard worker. Totti will no doubt be injured for about half the season too, and while he brings unrivaled skill and finesse, he will probably need replacing after 70 mins or so. I don't feel we could reasonably rely on either Totti or Adriano to maintain full match fitness for the season. Marco gives us options. And at least he'll be match fit...

Jeff, it had to be Ranieri who insisted something be done before the transfer market closed. Spalletti allowed himself to be manipulated and as you point out, would never have acted so forcefully. What annoys me as I said is the way Pradè wants us to think it was all down to him! When I think of it, none of us should be overly surprised that according to Borriello, la Sensi convinced him to come to us by speaking to him "with heart." Never underestimate the power of a woman's wiles. In this case it was charm.

Poli is a class young player, he would be ideal for us. Its rumored Inter and Milan were after him too so Sampdoria face a tough task keeping him there. This could be his real break-out season.
