I like this move. We needed a striker, and we got one. The Adriano experiment will end by Christmas, and Okaka will some playing time eventually. Sure we could have used another creative CM, but this is still a good move.

I don't think we needed another striker at all. Vucinic-Totti-Menez, that is a our starting front three, Okaka to get his chance to shine and Adriano offering something different as a prima-punta. And then there's Julio Baptista. Is that not enough forwards? Now we have:

Totti will get injured eventually and with Adriano out for a month (maybe longer cause he needs to get back in shape) this is a good signing.

I certainly don't have a long face over Borriello joining Roma. It may be a result of panic, but with Adriano out for a month *at least*, and our inability to put the ball in the net exposed once again, I think it's a good move. I would have loved to hear the behind-the-scenes conversations that occurred in the last couple of days. I would have been really upset if we had sent Mexes to Milan, though. Not just because of the loss to Roma, but because I don't want to see us strengthen Milan's defense.

Someone who I expect isn't too happy, though, is Okaka. I suppose he'll be sent out in January.

It wasn't too long ago that we were celebrating the acquisitions of Mauro Esposito, Christian Wilhelmsson and Francesco Tavano...Borriello is huge step up and will contribute adequately.

14 goals in 26 league appearances last year, injured the year before only appearing a few times and then 19 the year before that with Genoa, good for third in the league. But of course, his off the ball movement pales in comparison to Montella.

Milan sold Marco Borriello to Roma at a discount because they are a ‘friend’, says Adriano Galliani.

The 28-year-old Italy international was being valued at €15m, but ended up costing cash-strapped Roma just €10m.

Borriello had rejected a move to Juventus earlier in the day, telling Sky Italia that he would leave San Siro if the transfer were permanent.

Roma have taken him on loan for the duration of this season, but they are obliged to sign him outright next summer for the pre-arranged fee mentioned above.

When asked why Borriello’s price had dropped so dramatically in the space of just a few hours, Galliani said: “President Berlusconi wanted to give a present to a club that he considers to be a friend.”

He's had more than a couple of brain farts, mk - that's not quite the point, though. You guys are probably right that Borriello will do a job for us this year, but I find it hard to get especially excited about this sudden 'swoop' - except to be baffled that we suddenly managed to find some money from somewhere. Perhaps he makes the team suddenly stronger by making the 14 stronger, but I still don't see that 4-3-1-2 with Menez behind Totti and Vooch isn't going to be our strongest line-up. Maybe Ranieri's going to play a more lopsided 4-4-2 with Vooch/Menez down one wing and Taddei down the other at times (pace Giacomo)? We had a good squad and for once, I guess, we've not lost important players, but Borriello is a serviceable player rather than an exciting one to my mind - though I suppose I should at least concede that it's been a very long time since we bought someone from the Milan first-team (as he was on Sunday) rather than a cast-off we then had to work to revivify.
