Roma Given Heroes Send Off Ahead Of Chievo Clash - Report

As Roma prepare for one last assault on the title with their must win clash against Chievo on Sunday, the players were given a fitting send off at Fiumicino today.

According to CorrieredelloSport, the Lupi were welcomed into the capital’s airport this afternoon by hundreds of adoring fans, who looked to give the players one last boost of encouragement before they made their trip north.

Given the logistical difficulties of entering the terminal building, the players were then given a police escort as they made their way towards the boarding gate.

The Giallorossi will snatch the scudetto on the final day should they beat Chievo and Inter fail to pick up a victory at already relegated Siena.

VERONA, 16 maggio 2010 – Giulietta alla romanesca. Verona è tutta giallorossa. Già in tarda mattinata le strade del centro storico e la zona intorno al Bentegodi sono piene zeppe di tifosi della Roma, sciarpe ovunque, bandiere e sorrisi. Serve un miracolo, lo sanno tutti, ma crederci fino alla fine non costa niente. Sono arrivati in diciottomila, molti già da ieri. Nel piazzale da cui si accede al settore ospiti dello stadio in cui si giocherà l’ultima di campionato contro il Chievo, quella che vale mezzo sogno (l’altro mezzo si gioca a Siena), si organizzano partite di pallone. Il modo migliore per ingannare l’attesa. Qualche romanista, magari venendo qui, nella notte si è fermato sotto l’albergo dell’Inter a Siena, costringendo il responsabile dell’hotel a chiamare per due volte le forze dell’ordine. Follie di fine campionato. Un campionato che, a sorpresa, ha saputo regalare emozioni sino all’ultimo minuto.

OCCHIO AL METEO — Il tempo a Verona è abbastanza buono. Il cielo è coperto ma non piove. Ranieri aveva dichiarato che la formazione sarebbe dipesa anche dal campo, che non dovrebbe essere così pesante. Quindi diventa ancora più improbabile l’impiego di Luca Toni. Sarà Totti a guidare l’attacco e alle sue spalle si muoveranno Taddei, Perrotta e Vucinic, anche se resta possibile l’impiego di Menez. Difesa confermata con Motta a destra, Juan e Burdisso centrali e Cassetti a sinistra al posto dello squalificato Riise. Motori della Roma De Rossi e Pizarro. La squadra è carica, il capitano – che potrebbe diventare l’unico giocatore della Roma a vincere due scudetti in giallorosso – scalpita. Tutto è pronto, caccia all’impresa.

Gazzetta are also reporting that Taddei will start ahead of Menez, which I hope isn't true.

Who could of thought this? It all may end in despair, but boy am I proud of those boys out there now. We overcame a few early nerves and got our goals, thats all we can do…

And Siena are not lying down and are giving Inter one hell of a game. Curci has been a legend out there, and Rosi, too, is doing excellent up against Balotelli.

As I said, it may end it pain, but for now, believe! Forza Roma per sempre!

Oh well I am not gonna lie I am disappointed. But like I said earlier I am proud of them. This has been one hell of a run for them. Automatic Champions League qualification.. it's all good FORZA ROMA!!

I think every prick lazie fan should have watched a relegated Siena today. You see such a performance from players, most of whom have no idea where they will be be next season, and compare it to what we saw just a few weeks ago from lazie. At least there is some pride and self respect left among professional footballers with the obvious exception of lazie.

In the end I suppose we all knew it would not happen. Once again, arrogance and money win the day while the rest of us have to drink from the bitter cup of resignation and defeat. Things have changed in the nearly 40 years I have been watching Roma but much remains the same. Roma has much to be proud of this season but now it is over. Only the fans of the second place team remember the second place team. Everybody else just remembers the Champion.

The reality now is that we have to prepare for next season where our main rivals up north will spend money, re-tool, and improve while Roma stuggles to put together a competitive squad.

Yep, exactly Jeff, we gave it all we could on the last day, but thats just the way it is. The Gods have a sense of humour, though, once again, letting us be top of the table at half-time and then with 35 minutes to go, but Inter we're always going to get that breakthrough. Even then, I hadn't given up hope, a one goal lead in football is never enough, but Siena just couldn't manage it, despite the best efforts of Aleandro Rosi (to both score and kick the shit out of Stinkybitch – himself and Curci had huge games, as we knew they would, i hope to see them back with us next season). Still, it just wasn't to be today, and thats the way it is.

Grazie Roma, graze for one hell of a (end to) season, we gave it all we could, and the boys – and Ranieri – done us all proud. Forza forza.
