I thought that Chivu guy played quite well tonight. For a guy who's made of glass and always chokes on the big occasions and who, I gather, was singlehandedly responsible for the 7-1 debacle at Old Trafford. Had we not sold him I bet we'd be gearing up to celebrate our second scudetto in three seasons. Not that I'm bitter about the way he was treated - by Rosella and by various Romanisti and all.

RANIERI VOWS TO KEEP FIGHTING


Roma coach Claudio Ranieri has congratulated Inter Milan on reaching the Champions League final but warned the battle for the Scudetto is still wide open. Despite losing 1-0 at Barcelona on Wednesday, Inter reached Europe's elite club competition final for the first time since 1972 thanks to a 3-2 aggregate win.

"Inter has completed a great achievement in Barcelona," said Ranieri. "I am truly proud for Italian football because it was important to have one of our teams in the final."

Ranieri will, however, be hoping Inter, who had to play for more than an hour with 10 men against Barca following Thiago Motta's red card, will be exhausted come Sunday when they play at Lazio.

The Giallorossi need city rivals Lazio to beat Inter to have a chance of reclaiming top spot. Roma lost 2-1 against Sampdoria in the last round to drop two points behind Inter with three games remaining.

Roma travel to Parma on Saturday while Inter take on Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico 24 hours later.

"We need to get up and fight again," said Ranieri. "We cannot forget what we have achieved this season.

"We dreamed of the fourth position earlier this campaign and we went on a 24-match unbeaten run before last weekend's defeat. We will fight until the end and have no regrets by season's end."

Roma took him in, paid many arms and legs for the privilege, and have waited and waited for the investment to become as wise as was hoped. It now has, as Mirko is today one of the best attackers in the world (haters are free to disagree, but we're right). La manifestazione è pacifica: camionette della polizia comunque presidiano l'intera area e Via Allegri, la strada che ospita il palazzo della Figc bloccata, è stata chiusa. I tifosi hanno anche esposto alcuni manifesti che ritraggono il gol di Turone con la scritta 'Era bonò, messo in parallelo al fallo di Zauri 'Era manò, a ricordare i presunti 'scippì subiti dalla Roma da quello storico con la rete annullata dall'arbitro Bergamo negli anni 80 fino all'episodio più recente nel match di domenica scorsa con i blucerchiati.

RANIERI URGES ROMA TO FIGHT ON


Roma boss Claudio Ranieri has told his players to keep fighting despite letting the Serie A lead slip back into the hands of Inter Milan. Last weekend's 2-1 loss to Sampdoria ended Roma's 24-match unbeaten run and saw them drop two points behind league leaders Inter with three games remaining. However, with a tough trip to Parma on Saturday, Ranieri told his club's website:

"The team are always looking ahead to the next game. If you finish matches like we have then you get punished. We'll see tomorrow how the team react because we must give 100% and prove our resolve. They have peace of mind about reaching the goal they set for themselves when the season originally started. They are now close to achieving that goal and will be in good spirits."

Ranieri played down suggestions that city rivals Lazio would not give their all against leaders Inter this weekend.

"I have no suspicions and do not have the slightest doubt that Lazio will play the game they best they can. It may well be true that we are now dependent on the outcome of Inter's matches but we must always fight and give our best, as our fans demand."

With around 6,000 Giallorossi fans expected to make the trip, Ranieri hopes his team can feed off their support.

"It shows the attitude in and around the club. The team need this support. We do not have the strength of Inter, but the energy that the crowd give to us on the field means that anything is possible. I am more interested who is better out of Roma and Parma than ourselves and Inter. We are interested in what we do and playing to our destiny."

Roma are sweating on the fitness of key striker Mirko Vucinic for the match with Marco Cassetti and John Arne Riise also struggling with injuries. Parma host the title contenders on the back of two straight defeats. The Gialloblu have already assured themselves of Serie A football next season having gained promotion to the top flight last summer.

However, Francesco Guidolin's side have struggled to get results of late and last weekend's 2-1 loss at Bologna left the Ducale club seven points off seventh and with games against Roma and Juventus to come. Parma president Tommaso Ghirardi insists his side, who have little to play for, will give their all when Roma come to town.

"On the field there will be no room for good feeling, Parma will play to win against Roma. I backed the coach and he has paid me back by avoiding relegation for the club. We have both won. I'm pleased with the results we have achieved and we'll do our best to win three points against Roma. We've had a good season and this will be our penultimate match at home and we'll try to reach 50 points for the season."

Parma are without Alberto Paloschi, Damiano Zenoni and Stefano Morrone, with several team-mates also aiming to prove their fitness. Massimo Paci and Cristiano Zaccardo are suspended.
