Well, no doubt we can grumble about how the boys played when Samp when down to 10 men, but for 70 minutes tonight that was superb for me. When Perrotta and Totti are in the line-up and in-form these boys can sure play some football. Totti is ridiculously good. He reminds me a little of God or how, at least, I imagine God would play the beautiful game. God could perhaps do it alone whereas Totti can't, but boy can he make the rest of the team look good.

No doubt some will grumble about the substitutions and I do think Cicinho should have come in when they went down to 10 - when his workrate would have cut Pieri up and where defensive accuracy wasn't likely to be quite so important. Perhaps, though, Spags wanted a cool head rather than someone anxious to impress? I'd have gone for Cicinho. On the other hand, Spags's starting 11 today was top-drawer and worked brilliantly. Cut the shite about Vooch not working on the left - his two best games this season have come out there with Totti through the middle. With more defensive-minded trequartisti alongside him he interprets that role perfectly, offering us an out with his pace and strength as we build from the back, offering us a threat in the box when we build on the right, and clever enough with his movement and touch to play off Totti. He's not a winger, but then Spags doesn't ask him to play that position like a winger.

DDR was also simply ridiculously good today. He missed an interception towards the end of the second half. I was disgusted. His defensive boots had magnets in them today and he was just superb.

Ferrari is a funny player. Again he had a couple of lapses of concentration today which could have cost us dear. Cut those lapses out of the recording of the game, though, and he was superb alongside the brilliance of Juan. I can't quite decide with Matteo - much of what he does is really, really top-drawer but then he has the odd brain-fart. When he's punished for them he looks a muppet; when he gets away with them he looks extraordinarily good for a third CB.
