And as far as the defense goes, I think some factoring has to go to injuries. How many games have Perrotta, Taddei and Aquilani missed together? Cassetti has seen some time out, same for Panucci and Ferrari. (The form of Matteo is another matter. Ditto for Mexes, who hasn't exactly looked unbeatable.)

They're only on pace to concede 7 more goals than last year, and I wonder how many of those would have been kept out of the net with even half the games back from Simone, Rodrigo and Alberto. They do provide a lot of what this squad needs. And I think I put the stat up at one point: This year, with those three on the pitch at the same time Roma has conceded 2 goals. I won't say anything definitive until those three, or at least just Perrotta and Taddei, can get onto the pitch for an extended stretch.

* Out of 48 possible games, those 3 have played in 23, started 20.

Just watched highlights of the Coppa and boy do we need to get back on form against Samp on Saturday. Right now we are struggling to even hold off a under-strenght Torino side. Torino are playing some decent stuff, but really 3-1 is a very poor return. Anyone watch the full-game, how did the likes of Pit, iTunes and even Della Penna (when he came on) get along?

Il capitano della Roma Francesco Totti potrebbe scendere in campo sabato contro la Sampdoria. Il piu` bel regalo di Natale. Questa pare essere l`indicazione fornita dall`allenamento della mattina a Trigoria. Totti, infatti, ha lavorato con il resto della squadra, effettuando il torello e andando anche a segno durante la partitella. A quanto pare, il numero dieci non ha accusato alcun tipo di dolore al piede destro.

Si e` invece fermato David Pizarro. Il regista ha accusato un problema alla coscia destra e ha abbandonato la seduta prima della partitella. Non dovrebbe essere nulla di grave, ma e` molto difficile che il cileno possa farcela per sabato. Lavoro differenziato, poi, per Bertagnoli, Juan, Giuly e Taddei, mentre Mexes e` stato curato con fisioterapie.

Totti could be back for Samp on Saturday. He has been back in training today. But Pizarro picked up a thigh injury and is probably out.
