RANIERI STIRS UP ROME TROOPS –
Roma coach Claudio Ranieri has urged his side to maintain their improved form as they prepare to host Genoa at the Stadio Olimpico. The Giallorossi head into the game on the back of a 1-0 win over Chievo that lifted them to fifth in the standings - one point behind Juventus, who hold the last Champions League qualifying spot. Europe seemed a remote possibility when Ranieri replaced Luciano Spalletti in September but, after a mixed start to his reign, Roma are now firmly on course for a spot in Europe's premier club competition. Ranieri's men have not lost since October and the former Chelsea coach wants to see them keep up that run into the second half of the season.

"The tests never finish," said Ranieri. "We have to always make it so we are ready, even when we have three games a week, and demonstrate that we have studied. The round of the return matches is starting and we have to present ourselves well. Genoa deservedly won the first match 3-2. My balance is positive when you look at the first half of the season. We have pulled ourselves out of a particular situation, there is feeling with the group. But there is still the whole of the second half of the season, we will find so many pitfalls."

Ranieri has pinpointed Genoa new boy David Suazo as the opposition dangerman. Suazo signed on loan from Inter Milan at the beginning of the transfer window and immediately scored on his debut at AC Milan.

Ranieri added: "We're expecting a very open game as that is Genoa's style. Gasperini is a coach who works well, the results are showing that. We're facing a squad who are ambitious and really want to do well. Up front they have a very quick player like Suazo; when his team-mates know how to set him free, he will be even more frightening. We will have to make it so that he finds the through-balls closed off."

Roma captain Francesco Totti is still struggling after sustaining a minor knee injury before the winter break and Ranieri has decided to leave him out of the squad ahead of a vital clash at Juventus next Saturday. Daniele De Rossi has declared himself fit, however, although he is unlikely to be risked from the start. Cicinho is injured while fellow Brazilian Doni is suspended.

Genoa will be looking to make it two successive Serie A wins when they head to the Stadio Olimpico having beaten Catania 2-0 last week. They will be aware that they are facing a different Roma than the outfit they met at the beginning of the season and the Giallorossi have won their past eight home fixtures. Suazo has sent out a warning to the rest of Serie A, however, vowing that his best is yet to come.

"I feel good, I'm finding my feet again and a certain consistency, even if I am not at my max yet," said the Honduras striker. "But it is important to play to find match rhythm. I have to thank the fans who are showing me their affection and my team-mates, who have made me instantly feel part of the group."

Italian defender Dario Dainelli is expected to make his debut for the Grifoni after joining on a permanent transfer from Fiorentina this week and he will find himself facing former Viola team-mate Luca Toni. Rodrigo Palacio, Raffaele Palladino and Houssine Kharja remain injured.

Your poll question? Where was it before? Sorry. Yes you could say it benefits all of those you mentioned. Its hard to pick out one even at this stage as there's still a lot of things to factor in. Luca, on todays performance, and against Chievo, those couple of chances he scuffed aside, certainly looks like a different player then the one we seen struggling at Bayern and for the Azzurri before he was ousted. Perhaps all he needed was new scene, a fresh incentive and a change of environment, or perhaps its playing in a side with a lot of talent behind him who were crying out for a player of his ability to lead the line. A bit of both, I suspect. He certainly looks a lot sharper, a lot fresher, and not as rusty as he was in his recent demise. He will benefit Vooch greatly, as we seen today, as he's exactly the type of forward he needed to hold the ball up and allow Vooch to run his magic around him. They combined wonderfully today. It may also benefit Luca himself, if he can keep on playing like that, come the summer.

The league table certainly makes for some interesting reading now. Who would of thought it when Ranieri took over – third place, unbeaten in 14 matches, playing lovely football and everything going well. Of course, next week is a big test away to Rube, which, even though they are seriously struggling, will still be a big test for the boys mentality and belief as we will be going into the game as favourites, so the pressure will be on. Still, its a good time to be facing such a game, we should be more than capable if todays excellent performance is anything to go by. And I have to say, hats off to Ranieri, he's certainly doing something right.
