Ranieri has been fined €5k for his post match comments, and Pizarro has been fined €3k for lashing out at an advertising board after the final whistle. How very nice. I still haven't watched the game yet.
Sensi ‘profoundly mad’ with referees – Wednesday 21 October, 2009
Roma President Rosella Sensi is so angry at her club’s treatment at the hands of referees that she has written an open letter to the League’s head honchos. Roma were incensed on Sunday night when Roberto Rosetti gave Milan a soft penalty yet denied them a blatant one. The Giallorossi ended up losing 2-1. Claudio Ranieri called the refereeing ‘shameful’ while Philippe Mexes didn’t pull any punches either, questioning Rosetti’s competence.
“I am furious, actually profoundly mad, and I believe I am not the only one at the moment in Rome. My family has led this club for 17 years. I have lived every moment of my father’s battles. I remember championships in which Roma were penalised by a number of refereeing errors. I haven’t even forgotten the fact we lost the Scudetto in the last 45 minutes against Catania, two years ago.
“I want to be clear. I am very sure that we do not find ourselves in ‘uneven dynamics’ like years ago, but evidently we live in unacceptable situations. I have institutional responsibilities and for this reason I have always kept a profile inspired by moderation. But there is one thing that I have the job of asserting: I would not like there to be anyone out there who thinks they can profit from our difficult start to the season, the ‘Spalletti incident’ or the fans’ protests at the club, thinking they can find a weak directorship, a disorientated team and a split fan base.
“We have a competitive team, a trainer who is capable with personality, and a strong fan base. I ask my players to make themselves compact. I don’t want to hear any more phrases like: ‘We knew how it would end’. And finally I ask the fans, even those who protest against me, to unite and row together all in the same direction,â€
What is there to talk about, edzo? Other than the excitement of a Riise-Riise showdown tomorrow? It's hard to get excited about the dull CL this year and we don't want to get too excited about the Europa Cup tie too early otherwise we'll be out of steam by the time the game proper rolls around.
Thats never stopped us before. But I suppose the conversation just happens when it happens, I know I know. I still haven't watch the full game from last weekend so i can't really comment on that, but thats a pretty dramatic open letter from Rosella, don't you think? Any thoughts on that? Or my question on if you're going down to the game in London tomorrow?
Actually, I thought her open letter was pretty pathetic. The fact that it's drawn almost no reaction shows quite how little respect she has within the game. It's a bit late for her to start throwing her toys out of her pram. It felt to me like a little petulant squeal - too little, too late, poorly timed, etc. etc.
Yeah I agree. Like I said, I think she was just doing it to try and make an impression upon the fans and reassure herself in believing she is still important, but judging by the reaction, or lack thereof, it shows how seriously people think of her.
She is pathetic. With her press conferences not live but taped and only shown on Roma Channel, all the times she writing letters... So Roma trying to get Ruud Van Gol this january since Totti's injury is a mystery (what else is new at Trigoria). Sure Ruud is a prolific striker but the injuries he had the last few years. Seen him few weeks back when he was in Holland and he was in good shape, guy keeps himself busy when he is injured, good mentality.
Of course she doesn't do live press conferences. She would be like an overgrown rat caught before headlights. And i think its fairly safe to say she didn't write any of that letter herself. All she does is read it out and hope that people take her seriously. You actually seen Ruud Van Horseface in person, Deini? Was he trotting down the street? I hope we don't try to get him too, he's injured too much to try and improve our fortunes.
Oh and its good to see Serse Cosmi back in Serie A. Too bad his first game is back in the Olimpico (for Livorno, anyway). Surely thats a good sign for us.
Saw Ruud in the store I frequently visit. Think if he comes it will be like this. One match Totti playing and he out, next match Totti out and Ruud playing.
And those letters, press conferences are all written by Pippo Marra.
Some people can't be spontaneous in reaction, they need those few extra seconds to consider a sensible response. I wouldn't class that in itself as a fault. On the other hand however, there are those who couldn't put an unprepared common sense reply together if their lives depended on it and our beloved presidente would seem to fit that bill!
She is just playing to the gallery with that statement, no more, no less. When people start seeing through your act it's time to quit...and how we wish she would!
To il calcio...Ranieri said today there is still a little of Chelsea left in him and he views the Fulham game as a bit of a derby!
Seeing Fulham's Roy Hodgson earlier this evening and listening to his fluent though heavily English accented Italian reminded me of so many Domenica Sportiva programs when he was allenatore of Inter. He has a pleasant personality and I respect him as a man but nonetheless I hope our mister gets the better of him...
Slight ankle problem for Cassetti in training yesterday but he should be ok:
ALLENAMENTO AL CRAVEN COTTAGE: PROBLEMA A UNA CAVIGLIA PER CASSETTI – pubblicata mercoledì 21 ottobre 2009
PROBABILE FORMAZIONE (4-4-2): Doni; Cassetti, Mexes, Andreolli, Riise; Guberti, De Rossi, Pizarro, Perrotta; Menez, Vucinic.
THE Tinkerman was back at Stamford Bridge last night for the Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid, ahead of Roma's Europa League group qualifier at Fulham. And Claudio Ranieri admitted that he would like to return to the Premiershit one day.
"Of course I wanted to stay at Chelsea and finish my job but it didn't happen and now I am back at Rome, where I was born and at the club I supported," said Ranieri.
One possible future destination could, perhaps, be Fulham after Roy Hodgson revealed that he is still to open negotiations regarding a new contract at Craven Cottage. Hodgson's stock will rise further if Fulham can overcome Roma, who have already lost in the group to Basle. Fulham are top of Group E, a point better off than Basle and the Italians.
Fulham are without Andrew Johnson, Simon Davies and Dickson Etuhu and Danny Murphy. Hodgson is considering using Bjorn Helge Riise
