MF - Verificare carte, garanzie, documenti.

Channel 4 at times just does not give the story any real context. If everything goes well today, Roma should be sold shortly. But remember, Rosellla and her cronies are working very hard to prevent this sale. 7% of the club is simply not enough for her because she will have no power and I immagine, she will receive a major cut in her annual wage. I wonder if she is considering selling Villa Pacelli. Now that would be something. She could sell the oil company along with the port and keep Roma. Does anyone think she will go that far? There are other assets of Franco that are being used in a possible last minute deal to keep the club. Fortunately, Unicredit refuses to extend any money to Rosella. If she gets funding, it will have to come from another source. But Unicredit seems to have a back up plan if the Fioranelli deal falls through. It is supposed to be Angelini from what I hear and from what I read. But who really knows. The point is that Unicredit is forcing the sale of Roma.

^^ I see this happening: Sensi rejects the deal from Fioranelli. Unicredit starts pressure her again to sell. Those assets are already not enough to let Sensi keep Roma according to Unicredit. And since Angelini has ties with MedioBanca he will buy Roma at a very low price which he seems reasonable.

Who said anything about whether or not that rumour made sense? The question was simply how competitive do you think this squad could be were we to hold on to all of our important players, bring back into the fold four or five of the young Roman players, and then add, say, Pavluychenko up front. Would such a squad leave us competitive, do you think, or miles off the pace? We'd still be short a good centre-back seems to be the consensus - perhaps Freddi can have a role? At least watching a back four of Motta, Andreolli, Freddi, Rosi ship goals would be an improvement on what we've seen this season.
Tom, I rather think just about anything would be an improvement on our defence this past season. I (and I imagine you also) can recall Zeman being taken to task for the way his Foggia and then his Roma scored lots of goals and leaked as many just as quickly...
"I only wanted to entertain," he moaned when he was fired! I'll say this, at least he offered a form of explanation which is more than I've seen Spalletti doing!
Pavluychenko? I remember the rumours as I said from last January or thereabouts. He is a hypothetical suggestion as you say, not being available to us. Someone similar perhaps might fit...but of the various rumours re/strikers that we might do a deal on, taking the two current names, firstly Trezeguet. A born target man but depends upon others to serve him. Huntelaar? I said when he was still in Holland that I couldn't see him coming to Italy, that England or Spain was more likely. If we do try for him it won't be a straight sale, it will involve wheeling and dealing. Too many improbables. Not that I'd be against either one of those two joining us if it becomes possible.
I get your point...a defence based on our young hopefuls with another couple in midfield and a proven goal scorer up front...utilising the experience of De Rossi, Aquilani or Pizarro and Vučinić...
So, we take three or four years out to build a winning side which won't cost the earth and will probably be largely Italian. The tragedy of that situation is the impatient nature of the modern game which demands Champions League standard. Quite aside from the usual set of reasons for immediate success, would the cash flow factor permit such a long term action?
To quickly answer your question, Tommasino, no, I don't think that squad you proposed would make us sufficiently competitive to aim for second or third place and a return to Champions League football, I'm afraid. As we have seen this season a lot of our aging players are more likely to succumb to the demands of playing a long hard season of regular football, and players like Totti, Perrotta, Taddei, Cassetti and Panucci are likely to pick up their fair share of injuries once again, and, lets face it, some are no longer the players they once were in their prime while some may not reach the heights they reached this season past. I'm all for adding a bit of our young Roman blood to the squad for next season, and i hope that happens with the likes of Cerci and Rosi, but it may not necessarily be the case that adding these players would improve the overall quality of the squad. The strength in depth yes, and the opportunity to prove they can cut it in the big time, but perhaps not the overall quality. Certainly I hope thats not the case and Cerci or Okaka do cut it, but I still feel that some additional quality is needed to rebuild for the new season. Pavluychenko, while a good player and a player who i think would be a good signing for us (he has done fairly well in england coming to a new league and style of play in his first season, all that while not getting a break after playing in the summer of the Russian league), may not be enough. A proven centre-half is needed, in my view, someone who can step in and fill the inevitable void left my Mexes' suspensions and Juan's glass legs, someone like Zapata or Luisao or Hangeland or Milito. And then probably someone to take over from, dare I say it, Taddei to give us that something extra forward. Guberti, perhaps, or Rosina or even Rossi. A new striker is needed, too, and while Pavluychenko would be a solid addition, I would like to permit myself to think we could have the balls to take a chance on one of the new breed of promising forwards out there, the likes of this Dzeko or Arnautovic or Keirrison, I don't know.
Its the same old wishful thinking I guess that we all permit ourselves this time of year, how we halfheartedly believe that, under this management, this summer will be different and this summer we will spend the cash on those two or three quality players who can make the difference for us, only to eventually give up hope as we see our likely targets join Portsmouth or Sunderland for £20+ while we negotiate and barter and argue with Lecce for the rights to co-own half of the left leg of they're reserve centre-half. Unless the club is sold, of course, then its a whole new ball game (like in ice-hockey, right Stef?).
So Rosi's a left sided player? I would rather throw Antunes on the left. Maro, I think we'd have a quality team battling for 3rd/fourth place and coming close in a number of big games. I would see a continuation of us chocking in the smaller matches that we must win or as Gio puts it "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory" (Gio correct me if I'm wrong). Perhaps that is ok, since it would be a young team. I am in favor of developing our youth though, but we cannot romanticize that they will necessarily make the cut. Although we see gems like D'Agostino, lets not forget he only really came into these last two years as a 26/27 year old. That's pretty late, and I think most systems would have given up on him. It took quite a while and a number of coaches to re-invent him in his current role. I think the Chiellini situation annoys me more, ditto Amelia. I'd like to give Curci a chance.
The difference in technical abilities required between being a solid professional player and a Champions' League quality player, I would surmise, is not that much but at the same time, the vast majority of players never reach the latter level.
How many of the kids will make it? Are fans today patient enough for 3-4 years given the instability of our fans and of course the ownership situation, not to mention constant the short-sighted "I want things now now now now NOW" mentality? I simply do not know Carlo. We can talk about developing youth as much as we want but Italy does not have a fine tradition of throwing youth out onto the pitch, as many have stated before, preferring to play experienced players in different positions.
I wish we still had Bovo, he I think, would have been a solid 3rd/4th CB. Managed 27 starts at Palermo this past year. Didn't get to watch him play though.
No, Robbie Keane's stock has seriously fallen (see Special One TV , 3:40m mark), Caleb Folan is the next big thing of Irish soccer. But he's just a dream, I heard he's going to Sunderland for £34.5m+ half the Irish under-19 squad.
I think this season is the best opportunity we'll have to give some of our youth a chance at making the breakthrough with us. We could have Curci back in the nets – his agent hasn't ruled out a return – we could have Rosi and Andreolli (not technically 'our' youth but still), and of course Cerci and Okaka. Its a good time to rebuild, and why not rebuild with our own roots? Of course, if we have greater ambitions and want to push for trophies, even, then spending big money on already established players is obviously the way to go. But that is the risk you take, you have to give youth a chance. Finding the balance between youth and expensive imports (including Italians) is the key.
Tom, do you or anyone else know how Aleandro Rosi' season went with Livorno? How many games did he play, in what position(s), general performance?
