Gio, I will never forget the look of genuine pleasure on Burdisso's face when he stepped out onto the stadio Luigi Ferraris on opening day with our lads! It's like he was reborn!

Lupa, that really bugs me too, Baggio constantly being made the scapegoat! Baresi missed the first rigore and Massaro had his saved by Taffarel. Even if Roby had scored, we were still one behind Brasil...so annoying that only Albertini could score for us that day!

Uuummnnn...Lupa, thing was Baresi had a success rate with Milan from the penalty spot and with Italia, though in saying so I remember the shootout in the Ireland-Italy game in Boston in summer '93 when Baresi was extremely lucky to score with his then.

What I remember most of the '94 final was that Roby came into it nursing a strained thigh and I'm certain if he had been fully fit he would never have missed the scoring chance he had in open play. That Azzurri side would have been able to defend a 1-0 lead to win the Cup.

Oh well, fate decided different. The Spanish and the Bulgarians' curses all fell on us that day!

Carlo - no need to seem apologetic about correcting me regarding Baresi's PK chances. I freely admit I was new to watching calcio, I just assumed that you would prefer your top scorer's chances vs. a defender.

I recall the strained thigh, and if it had been a Hollywood movie, Baggio would have scored the winner.

No, I wasn't correcting you, I was dubious about the Ireland-Italy game in question as there had been two different warm up games. One which we won 2-1, Billy Costacurta scoring Italy's second goal from a penalty. That was a one-off friendly. The second match with Ireland was a part of a mini tournament as I recall and ended 2-2 which is why it went to penalties.

I'm apologetic about my vagueness. It seems ages ago now!

Gio, you know, fate never ceases to amaze me! two devout giallorossi and we both rate Juventini as our favorite players...well in my case it's Paolo Rossi then Baggio!
