ROMA HOPE FOR RANIERI KICKSTART


Roma will be hoping to finally get their season going against Siena in what will be Claudio Ranieri's first match in charge. The Giallorossi are currently propping up Serie A with no points to their name from their two opening matches. Their dismal start to the campaign saw coach Luciano Spalletti quit after five years in charge and he was replaced by Ranieri at the beginning of the month. Midfielder Daniele de Rossi is full of praise for his former boss and hopes the team can turn things around quickly under the former Juventus and Chelsea coach.

"I'm upset by Spalletti's resignation but for me nothing changes because I do my work and play for Roma," he said. "Spalletti left with dignity after having done a great job in these past few years. He remains the best coach I have had and the one who I am closest to. The only one who I would go for dinner with one day. Ranieri arrived, I have only worked with him for a few days, but I have seen that he has a great desire to do well, we have done a lot of athletic work in these days. My first impressions of Ranieri have been good, even though I have had few days to know him. He has great determination."

De Rossi has urged his team-mates to put the upheaval of the past fortnight behind them as they strive to kick-start their campaign. He added: "We could be spurred on by a sense of revenge, to prove something after the change of coach. But us players will have to think only of playing for Roma. Not for Spalletti or for Ranieri. We can't be on one side or the other." Cicinho and Doni will miss out on the trip to Tuscany.

Siena picked up their first points of the season with a 3-1 win against Cagliari but Emanuele Calaio, who scored a brace, knows it will be a much trickier test against Roma. "It will be a great battle," he said. "The Giallorossi are coming here wounded, they lost the first two games, they are not good physically, but they will have to shake themselves up to get back to the position they belong to.

"With the change of coach they will have found new motivations, as well as new work methods. But we will be as motivated to achieve safety and the boss is preparing for the match very well." Luca Rossettini is Siena coach Marco Giampaolo's only injury worry and the defender is almost certain to miss Sunday's game. Claudio Terzi, who is likely to replace him in the back four, should therefore make his debut following his summer move from Bologna.
