probably going to be a tougher game than most seem to think. no way chievo is committing more than 3 men beyond the ball at 0-0 and without totti/gervs i don't see how it's going to be easy to break them down. i hope ljajic has a good game or we' might need another 30 yard screamer for this one. let's make it 10. forza roma

I woulda maybe give Bradley the start for either Pjanic or Strootman, but I guess he wasn't fit enough to start and last the full 90 minutes. Other than that I can't really see where else we could of made changes, other than Marquinho coming in, but like I said it would have been nice to see Caprari start.

Good crowd in the stadio tonight (mid-week game, Chievo at home hardly super attractive), you'd swear we're on a run or something. Forza run.

Roma made it 10 wins from 10 on Thursday evening as they beat a resilient Chievo Verona 1-0 at the Stadio Olimpico thanks to Marco Borriello's first goal of the season.

The visitors demonstrated that they were not in Rome just to make up the numbers in the second minute when Sergio Pellissier ran down a seemingly lost cause to hook the ball back from the byline towards Alberto Paloschi but Daniele De Rossi was on hand to intercept.

Roma reacted by winning a succession of corners and holding onto the ball comfortably; Marquinho flashed a shot over the bar on 10 minutes before Kevin Strootman powered a shot into the midriff of a Chievo defender from 18 yards.

Despite the long spells of possession there was little end product early on, as Chievo set themselves out to defend deeply. Strootman tested Christian Puggioni with a well struck effort from 25 yards that the keeper fisted away and Adem Ljajic also had a shot blocked from distance, but the visitors were doing well to break up Roma's passing moves and prevent them from building any real momentum.

The Giallorossi were undeterred though and continued to look for opportunities, with De Rossi heading over from Marquinho's hooked ball eight minutes from half time. The Brazilian was then fouled 25 yards from goal as he turned expertly past Dario Dainelli, but Miralem Pjanic's free kick only hit Perparim Hetemaj in the wall.

Half time arrived with the scores still at 0-0, and Giuseppe Sannino's side were definitely the happier of the two going into the break after frustrating Roma, who had created few openings despite having the lion's share of possession.

The second half began with a positive driving run from Ljajic that took him past Dainelli but with no end result, but play quickly settled back into the pattern of the first half with Chievo looking to frustrate and hinder the hosts' play as much as possible. Only some good positioning from Vasilis Torosidis prevented Pellissier from having a clear run on goal as the Gialloblu countered.

Alessandro Florenzi was brought on just before the hour as Rudi Garcia looked to freshen the attack up, and Roma moved up a gear following the change as they fired a few efforts towards Puggioni's goal. Midway through the second half the breakthrough finally came when Ljajic combined with Florenzi, who crossed for Borriello to head deftly home into the far corner.

The goal forced Chievo to commit men forward and open up the game and they nearly equalised when a deflected effort from Luca Rigoni was spilled by Morgan De Sanctis, and Mehdi Benatia scythed into the back of Paloschi as he tried to turn home the loose ball but Roma were saved by the linesman's flag as the striker was offside.

Florenzi then combined well with Federico Balzaretti to set up a chance for Borriello but Nicolas Frey did superbly to block the striker's effort. Puggioni palmed over a free kick from Ljajic from a narrow angle as Roma tried to seal the points, but by and large they were content to sit further back and contain Chievo rather than go forward in search of a second.

In the end 1-0 was enough and Roma marched onto 10 consecutive wins with another clean sheet, and will look to make it 11 wins from 11 when they travel to Torino on Sunday.

Well put, this, I think: LJAJIC 6,5: Deve sempre toccare almeno due volte il pallone, si decentra anche quando non deve, non ha il no look del capitano. Ma il piede è raffinato e il carattere è serbo. Ovvero senza paura. Nel finale alla faccia della sua giovane età scuote la squadra e si prende gli applausi dell’Olimpico. Da brividi una punizione deviata da Puggioni a dieci dalla fine.

Roma win opening 10 matches to set Serie A record

Roma became the first team to win the opening 10 matches of a Serie A season when they beat Chievo 1-0 on Thursday. Striker Marco Borriello's first goal of the campaign gave the Italian league leaders a slender home victory over the bottom-of-the-table team.

Roma, who have scored 24 goals and conceded just one this campaign, lead second-placed Napoli by five points.

"It's a nice satisfaction, we've made history, but now we have to look ahead to our trip to Torino," said Borriello. "We're also playing very well away from home, but our objective is (to qualify for) Europe."



Rudi Garcia's side equalled Juventus's record of nine opening wins in last weekend thanks to a late 1-0 win away to Udinese.

Juve achieved the feat during the 2005-2006 season, when the Turin giants were stripped of the title and any other related honours for match-fixing.

Despite missing captain Francesco Totti and Gervinho through injury and with defender Douglas Maicon suspended, Roma dominated but struggled to break down Chievo before the break.

As the second half wore on, Marquinho was replaced with striker Alessandro Florenzi and the hosts broke the deadlock several minutes later.

Miralem Pjanic's pass found Florenzi deep on the left and the forward's inviting cross was headed home by Borriello from six yards. Luca Rigoni went close for the visitors late on before Adem Ljajic's free-kick was tipped away by goalkeeper Christian Puggioni to prevent a second.

Top stuff, can't give enough credit to Garcia.

I think Torino will be quite tough, I'd be over the moon if we can scrape another 1-0 or something there haha and then crack on with Sassuolo and Cagliari at home. International break after Sassuolo too so some time to recover.

A draw would even be a solid result away to Torino, I think. I'm sure the boys are on a high and very proud of all they've achieved with setting a new record, but it must take a lot out of them. Against Chievo it was a real struggle but we got over the line and achieved the record. Away to Torino there isn't that burden, and although I'm sure they'll want to keep it going, especially Garcia, it'll be extra hard, mentally as well as physically. Torino are a good side too and can be hard too beat at home.

They are able to either attack or defend in a game, but they don't seem capable of putting in anything resembling a balanced performance.

Shuuuuuuuuuut it. I'm trying to make it sound like getting a win there will be hard and a draw would be good so we'll all be pleasantly surprised when we win 9-0 thanks to a hat-trick of hat-tricks from Gianluca Caprari. Torino aren't that good an all round side, no, I agree, but they are entertaining and can trouble teams when they get at them, and we may not be all that fresh.

Gervinho out of Torino-Roma

Gervinho and Francesco Totti have still not recovered for Roma’s game against Torino tomorrow evening. It kicks off in Turin at 19.45 GMT.

Although captain Totti’s absence was already known, there had been strong hopes Gervinho would’ve made his comeback.

However, Coach Rudi Garcia opted not to risk him after today’s training session and the Ivory Coast international won’t make the trip.

Leandro Castan is suspended, so also stays behind, as Nicolas Burdisso is expected to start.

Così etichettarono Alessio Cerci mentre, giovanissimo,muoveva i primi passi nel Valmontone e già seminava il panico fra le difese avversarie «con quel sinistro magico ». Il ragazzo, tifoso giallorosso, uno degli ex della partita, ne ha fatta di strada. Ma non intende fermarsi. Bruno Conti l’aveva designato come suo erede. Talento puro, purissimo con un caratterino che spesso gli ha procurato qualche noia. Genio e sregolatezza insomma. A Torino, grazie a Ventura – un pò un secondo padre per lui – ha trovato la sua dimensione e ha conquistato la nazionale. Domani sera all’Olimpico proverà ad interrompere la striscia vincente della suaRoma.

DOLCI RICORDI Nella capitale Cerci ha lasciato una fetta di cuore. E lì vuole tornare a giocare, un giorno. Non potrebbe essere una partita qualsiasi per uno che ha vissuto nel pensionato di Trigoria, ha vestito la maglia giallorossa la prima volta a 11 anni e ha esordito in seria A quando ne aveva 16 e mezzo, precisamente il 16 maggio 2004, quando Capello lo gettò nella mischia contro la Sampdoria. «Mi chiamò Bruno Conti in persona» ha raccontato il fantasista granata. Il «MaraZico» lo aveva indicato come possibile erede. A lui Cerci deve tanto. Gli è stato vicino e ha sempre creduto in lui. In maglia granata ha svoltato.Ha trovato la sua dimensione.E’ cresciuto.Ha fatto la differenza, suscitando la curiosità di Prandelli, che lo ha fatto esordire a 25 anni il 21 marzo 2013 nell’amichevole contro il Brasile.

LA TATTICA Ventura adesso non può prescindere dal mancino del ragazzo. Il tecnico granata però dovrà fare a meno dello squalificato Vives e di diversi infortunati. L’emergenza continua. A Livorno ha riproposto la difesa a 4. Contro la Roma dovrebbe tornare al 3-5-2 con «quel ragazzino veloce, ribelle e con i capelli ricci» seconda punta.

Nice video, David. I notice that Gervinho gave it quite a boost (noticed because I started to watch it and then had to go off to do other things and came back *and* had to restart my computer). I think it was around 5K and went to 27K within hours of his post. Heh ... maybe Totti will watch it.

So, Torino. Freaking Rube and Napoli still breathing down our necks. No Castan. No prediction other than that I'll be nervous.

Why would you post it here indeed, David, sure don't bother, we're only you're fellow romanisti buddies, no need to share, but as long as you get your ratings.

It will be a nervous game alright, Lupa, but I suppose not as bad as the Chievo game as we got over the line to achieve the win record. Who knows where we can go from here? A win against Torino is certainly achievable if still a lot to ask, and then we have two very winnable home games (either side of an international break I think). Tonights game first I suppose, I think it will be a tough one of the lads, mentally as well as physically, interesting to see how Burdisso does, and if we'll make any more changes like Bradley in midfield.
