Is Ljajic really that good? At least with Lamela they've been telling us for so long that he's a superstar I was prepared to believe it might just finally be true. Is Ljajic anything other than a good player? Some of the punters seem to think he's pretty good.

He impressed of what i saw. Still young though. Problem is he's a malcontent. If we are to have a guy who will say stupid things and clash with the fans why didn't we just keep Ozzy?

ANTONIO FELICI (Centro Suono Sport): “Io sto vedendo che Ljajic con il passare degli anni non sta cambiando come atteggiamento. Non ha capito che se non ci sei con la testa una grande carriera non la fai. Anche il Milan mi sembra che adesso stia alla finestra. Nei grandi club guardano anche cosa hai dentro la testa”.



UGO TRANI (Rete Sport): “Secondo me Ljajic è molto più vicino alla Roma di quanto sembra. Vediamo se si risolve oggi, sarebbe meglio anche perchè se no, domani, il Milan torna sotto. Hernandez a 20 milioni? Se vai lì con 2-3 milioni te ne prendi la metà. Tottenham e Roma stanno facendo le trattative insieme, Baldini paradossalmente da quando è a Londra sta lavorando di più per la Roma di quanto non faceva quando era qui. Io preferisco Ljajic a Lamela, fisicamente è più forte l’argentino ma nel complesso preferisco il serbo”.



DAVID ROSSI (Tele Radio Stereo): “Da quanto mi risulta Ljajic ha già un accordo conla Romaela Fiorentinavuole darlo ai giallorossi. C’è stato qualche settimana fa un ‘incontro tra Della Valle, Baldissoni, Sabatini e Fenucci nella quale hanno trovato l’accordo. Al Milan non andrà per diversi motivi. Poi si punterà ad un attaccante centrale, in pole c’è Demba Ba che puo’ venire in prestito. Sabatini poi vuole trovare un centrale difensivo al posto di uno tra Burdisso e Castan”



MAX TONETTO (Tele Radio Stereo): “A me Ljajic non convince, sia dal punto di vista del carattere che da quello tattico. E’ un giocatore che non mi fa impazzire. Io sarei andato su altri obiettivi”

Anyone know if there's any truth in a rumour I read that Llajic's contract will have a 20m release clause?

If it does he'll be away from Roma if he is nothing more than decent for a couple of years.

Given that Roma are paying 12m for him when he has less than a year left on his contract, you could argue his full value is pretty close to 20m already.

If Fiorentina are too soft then we are positively squishy. I'm hard pressed to find one argument as to why Roma is a better club than Fiorentina and i mean that top to bottom.

Perhaps i could give you two. A player we got in the late 80's and one we got in the late 90's...

I've seen that, red. It first came out as a clause his agent was insisting on to sign for us rather than Bilan - a low release clause - and then today there's been further talk of that being at the 20 mil mark. I'd guess there's no little grain of truth to it.

I've no idea whether Bucchioni's opinion's worth anything or not here, Collie; I just imagine he's closer to things than I am and clearly there will have been loads of opportunities for Monty to try - or not - to keep Ljajic.

Chris at Chiesa di Totti thinks he's better than Lamela as well as being more consistent. He also says he's better than Jovetic. I disagree on all three fronts. I think both Ljajic and Lamela are equally inconsistent but I think Lamela is better now and also has a much greater attitude. There is also a possibility, although small, that Lamela will earn a 50+ million price tag one day. There is no chance of that with Ljajic. Still, for the difference in price tags and using strictly pragmatic judgment, replacing Lamela with Ljajic in the short term (plus cash) is not necessarily going to hurt us this year. I was worried that Lamela's apparent worth was being enhanced by Zeman's style of play and that he didn't get Garcia's gameplans. For all we know, Ljajic might be a much better fit.

He doesn't need to be particularly well connected to be better informed than me, of course, and his "tutto" was clearly a turn of phrase; certainly it doesn't seem to me inconsistent that Monty might have tried very very hard to keep him and then come out and said he was fed up with the whole thing. Anyway, I thought the "ineccepibile" bit was interesting and a counter to the voices that are drawing analogies with Ozzie.

Interesting, too, Fonz. I'm inclined to agree on that Zeman-related point - Lamela and Marquinhos were perhaps the two players most suited to his style. I just think Lamela has genuine pace, a great engine, and plays with his head up - as well as having the technical stuff that a lot of young gifted players have. And that means as a package he's likely to be special. I'm pretty sure he's more trequartista than wing-forward, though - it will be interesting (in a painful way) to see if he plays behind the striker at Spurs rather than down the right. On the other hand, he seems to like the game stretched and he's better at exploiting space than at creating it. I like the kid and am very sad he's leaving, as with Marquinhos, but I take the point that there may be players who are better fits for Garcia. Ljajic looks to me more likely to be an alternative to Totti, though, out-to-in down the right, with Florenzi and Gervinho the two options down the right, but we shall see.
