Can somebody tell me something. I am in need of an explanation. Seriously. How in the fuck did Roma not make a move for Giuseppe Rossi before he left for Spain. I am really at a loss. It's an indictment of the big teams in Italy as well but since I am a Roma fan, I am indicting our management, including Bruno, and Spalletti. I'm just really incensed over here. Beyond that, I am outraged. It's malfeasance. It's professional malpractice. It's unacceptable. I don't have the words. I need help. So somebody please help.

Oh, and to make matters worse, De Rossi hurt his foot. Yesterday, he received an insect bite from which he got an infection. Just perfect.

ManUtd were only willing to deal with teams who would insert a buyback clause, which he does have (10-12m I think).

Made sense for him to go to a team like Villarreal, who until last year were really a UEFA Cup team at best and a bottom 5 club at worst. I can't think a team of Roma's stature would've accepted such stipulations - and I do believe they had put in phone calls, if rumors were correct.

Let me ask another question. Where were we when Parma offered him to come and play in their youth system. Bruno looks all over the world for youth products, especially Italian youth products so where were we then. I repeat my indictment. Fucking ManU, I hate them.

Also, did anyone read today that the "big teams of europe" have rejected outright the idea of a salary cap.

i don't think man.utd can monopolize rossi though. if somebody comes in with a higher bid, they either have to match it or let him go. however, i could be wrong.

Christ I'm tired. It has been a very, very long day, one way and another. Pauly, Motta could certainly cover left back, but then I think it's just about true to say that any fullback can play on the opposite side if push comes to shove. And certainly a defensively competent one should be able to. I don't know about Cassetti or Cicinho. If Panucci goes over the summer then I could see them both staying because they offer Spags cover in a number of different positions. Clearly he thinks he can turn to either higher up the pitch if needed and Cicinho's played through the middle at times and Cassetti's offered really last-ditch cover at CB. My sense of Spags's ideal squad is two players for each position plus Cassetti. Or something like that.

I'm also not sure you can read too much into Motta's defence on the weekend, Pauly. Certainly he did well, but almost got shown up for pace a couple of times and it's also always easier to defend if you're constantly behind the ball, keeping in position and on-balance, as it were. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to downplay the game he had or his promise - I like him a lot and I think exciting, reliable fullbacks make the world of difference in any side and he looks like he's got an awful lot going for him (leadership, athleticism, a good engine, solid in the air, technically good). I just wouldn't want to get too excited and read too much into a single, steady, accurate performance.

I just worked my way through a few of the comments on theoffside and I think I want to die. My mind, at least, has turned to porridge. I see I shall have to reinvent myself as an Aquilani-lover over the coming weeks. Seriously, some of the comments there made me want to attack my testicles with a cheese-grater. Fortunately I'm at work so I can't and hopefully by the time I get home the urge will have passed.

I see what your saying Maro. But no doubt, the thing I extremely liked about Motta is that particular aura that he displayed when he was on the field. In short, it was particular command of confidence that he displayed. It's not a wonder that he was the captain of the Azzurrini. In addition, we can see why Chris liked him so much since way back. Yeah, he got burned for one play, and he commited a bad pass I think, but other than that, I just got a really good impression of the guy. Besides, I have no doubts that if he stays injury free, he will be great for us.

Haha Maro, I just read that comment you posted here right now. I would LOVE to go there and read those comments there right now, and get a hell-u-vah laugh, but I have a Psychology Midterm in 4 hours.

Btw, its pretty quiet without Shield. I guess I will have to pick up part of the slack and when I come back tonight, I will try to post some links of information, etcetera (if available).

Well Petrucci was being tipped highly in Roma, but there were some major issues regarding his contract and I believe his father's demands. I'm travelling and am far too lazy to look it up, but someone with a better memory or more enthusiasm to mining the news will come up with it.
