'Non mi piace la difesa a tre, preferisco la linea a quattro. Non so, dunque, se la rifarò. Ho preso questa decisione solo per l'emergenza'. Zdenek Zeman incassa la qualificazione in Coppa Italia e anche il gradimento dei dirigenti per la duttilità, avendo rinunciato, per la prima volta in carriera, al carissimo 4-3-3 pur di dare certezze tattiche ai suoi interpreti.

LA SCELTA - La spiegazione data da Zeman va interpretata. Per Zdenek il 4-3-3 è l'unico copione valido. Pure in inferiorità numerica, la difesa resta con quattro uomini. E il centrocampo con tre. Diminuiscono gli attaccanti: da tre a due. Il suo riferimento alla necessità, guardando alle assenze, fa però riflettere. Se avesse voluto, avrebbe tranquillamente potuto confermare il 4-3-3. Con gli stessi uomini, gli era sufficiente inserire un centrocampista per un difensore. 'Non avevo attaccanti', la precisazione legata ai singoli. Ecco la spinta verso il cambiamento. L'unica punta era Destro. Le altre due i primavera Frediani e Ferrante, da lui mai utilizzati e portati in panchina per far numero (sarebbero entrati solo in caso di forfait, in corsa, di Destro). Oltre all'emergenza, però, non è da escludere che il boemo abbia tenuto in considerazione l'atteggiamento tattico della Fiorentina che gioca con il 3-5-2.

IL RETROSCENA - Come fa sempre nel giorno della partita che si gioca in notturna, Zeman al mattino ha messo i giocatori davanti al video per studiare la squadra di Montella. Si è dedicato all'avversario, non alla Roma, ancora all'oscuro della rivoluzione tattica che Zdenek stava preparando per la serata di coppa. A metà pomeriggio una nuova convocazione. Che ha colto i calciatori di sorpresa. Nella riunione straordinaria, l'annuncio che nessuno si aspettava. 'Facciamo la difesa a tre' la sintesi del discorso, con poche indicazioni sul modo di coprire il campo. E con la raccomandazione di non abbassarsi troppo verso l'area di Goicoechea. C'è stato però un seguito. Uscito di scena il boemo, hanno preso la parola alcuni senatori: Burdisso, De Rossi, Balzaretti e Pjanic. Stupiti per la modifica, hanno girato i compiti ai più giovani.

We should win. We have to win, really, and get back on track. We have more or less a full squad to choose from bar a few youngsters, while Inter are missing some giocatori importanti. Totti, Osvaldo, Balzaretti and Pjanic (flu) are all available despite having a few concerns during the week.

Zdenek Zeman: 3-Man Defence Only For Emergencies

Ahead of tomorrow's clash with Inter, Zdenek Zeman held his press conference on Saturday where he discussed the likelihood of re-using a three-man defence against the Nerazzurri and Roma's chances of finishing in the top three.

"These are debates that we go over every week", Zeman began after being asked whether the game against Andrea Stramaccioni's side would be decisive for Roma's ambitions to qualify for the Champions League.

"There are 18 games left and we're trying to take them on one at a time so we can recover for the others. The first game of the season might even be the decisive one - we'll see at the end.

"This season doesn't depend on the cup, but on the league. I'm certain that Roma can still climb back up, but [performances on] the pitch must back me up.

"The first game [against Inter] was balanced, it wasn't our best performance. We're hoping to do better tomorrow. I haven't followed Inter that much, but I think their difficulties have been due to the absences of important players.

"[Stramaccioni] came from Roma, I've heard everyone speak very well of him. I know him more from what I've been told than what he's done with Inter. He has quality and a great chance to make himself known with Inter".

Having praised the Inter coach, Zeman also had words for club stalwart Javier Zanetti, who he believes Francesco Totti can still learn from.

"He's an important player. I have thought about him since my days at Lazio and he also thought about us, but he has become a symbol of Inter. He's an example for everyone, even for Totti since he is a few years older".

The topic of the three-man defence against Fiorentina was also brought up, but Zeman insists that it will only be used in emergencies as the top clubs in the world have remained true to one style of playing.

"For me it was an emergency, in the first half we did very well playing with three, in the second while playing with five we dropped too far back. I remain of the opinion that the best teams in history have always played their own football, without changing - the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Ajax... I'd like for my own team to learn their own style of football".

I actually think we'll win. Would fancy us anyway 'cos Inter have been very poor away from home of late but without Milito and Cassano, and possibly a couple of others I've forgot about, they're there for the taking.

Nice to see Nazio go from 1-0 up to 2-1 down in the space of two mins too

Inter are ridiculously negative in their tactics – its also why I still have reservations over just how good Stamaccioni actually is as a manager – as at times this season they've lined up with six natural defenders along with two defensive midfielders, and then Cassano and Milito up front. They've very little creativity in them, apart from Cassano's magic, and Guarin's bursting runs. And to think of all the talent they aren't using in Snjeider, Alvarez, Coutinho. Snjeider is frozen out, fair enough, but I'd question why Stamaccioni hasn't made the best use of other options available to him.

Against us, with that negative approach and our all out attack, it'll make for an interesting game, thats for sure. If you do go one or two ahead, do they have enough to get back at us, even allowing for our brainfarts? I don't know who they're gonna play up front? Palacio, I assume, but will Rocchi start too, on the bald fucks return to the Olimpico, or a young forward? Or will they be even more defensive and play an extra midfielder?

(Redazione Forzaroma.info) - Pochi dubbi e molti punti fermi. I quotidiani mettono in campo una formazione anti-Inter che non presenta differenze particolari da quella ipotizzata alla vigilia: rientra Totti e, ovviamente, tutti schierano il capitano tra i titolari, un ritorno beneaugurante dopo la sosta forzata contro il Catania. Accanto a lui ecco Lamela e Osvaldo: il primo ha tentato di salvare il salvabile nella sciagurata trasferta siciliana, il secondo vuole cominciare a dare un senso a questo 2013 iniziato male a livello calcistico.

A centrocampo Daniele De Rossi guiderà la manovra: Pjanic e Bradely si muoveranno tra le linee per dare equilibrio alla squadra. Out Florenzi, uscito malconcio dalla sfida di Coppa Italia. I giornali ipotizzano un ballottaggio tra difensori centrali: nonostante Castan sia in quasi tutte le formazioni (ad eccezione del Corriere dello Sport), non vengono escluse sorprese riguardanti Nicolas Burdisso che nelle ultime settimane ha prepotentemente scalato le gerarchie mentali di mister Zeman.

Miralem Pjanic ha svolto un allenamento per vedere le sue condizioni a pochi minuti dal fischio di inizio di Roma-Inter. Il centrocampista, alla fine del ‘provino’, ha scosso la testa e ha detto “non respiro bene”. Parole pronunciate mentre usciva dal campo. Il sostituto dovrebbe essere Florenzi.

Indeed, Lupa, something like that alright. Odd comments. DDR was always in line to start tonight ahead of Tach, I guess, so he's sticking with him, and rightfully so.

Well, that was bit of a damp squib, wasn't it? In hindsight, given how defensive Inter are set-up and how we're not on top form at the moment, that wasn't totally unsurprising.

Our finishing was poor again, but we also weren't as creative or fluid, with Totti looking off his game and Pjanic out. I love Florenzi, for sure, but on the ball and with his final pass he 's looking a bit sloppy and tired and lacking concentration as of late. I guess he was tired, as all the team looked tired after 120 minutes midweek. Bradley was impressive, while DDR went off injured (si riparte senza De Rossi, bloccato da problemi fisici - Gazzetta) and Tachtsidis didn't do much. We created a fair bit but just couldn't convert.

Roma really missed Pjanic there.

Being reduced to only really having one creative ball-player (and him having a poor game) and a whole bunch of runners really upset the balance of things and made it difficult for Roma.

Still, they got in enough dangerous situations that they ought to have won the game.

Bradley had a good game.

I love Burdisso's heart but Marquinhos is playing him right out of the Capital.

Too many squandered chances, no creativity, no fluid movement...too many turnovers in the midfield. I'm disappointed, to be honest. A draw is disheartening, especially with how well they played at the start. They were attacking at will in the first 20 or so. Too many missed opportunities, could have easily been 3-1.

I guess it could be worse...they could have suffered another defensive lapse and lost. I'll take the point but that was a tough one.

One player we're happy to be missing if it means he gets a chance to play regularly. Looks like he's doing very well, though I've no idea if his performances match his goal-scoring stats.

Sul terzo posto: "Continuo a dire che bisogna giocarsela ancora, ci sono tante partite da fare e non ci sentiamo fuori. Poi dobbiamo dimostrarlo sul campo". La difesa continua a crescere: "Marcos e Castan hanno fatto molto bene. Balzaretti difendeva meno e Piris ogni tanto va in confusione". Tachtsidis ha commesso parecchi errori: "Ha sbagliato tre-quattro palle facili, ma entrare a freddo non è mai facile, succede".

LLD.........Zeman is blaming fatigue from the Fiorentina match and Edzo is still blaming Disney World. No goals during the run of play. Two goals, 1 during the run of play in the last three league matches. Interesting: they go from scoring in bunches and conceding in bunches to not scoring and conceding little with the exception of Napoli. And Inter looked like one of the poorer sides I have seen lately. No excuse for that yesterday. But, inconsistency is what you get under Zeman. Perhaps Destro should have been brought on a bit earlier.
