Not a bad win, eh? Away from home, in what was supposed to be a home game, missing our front three, a revamped set-up, and even Rodrigo Taddei getting a run out and then a run in, minus the shinguards. The Coppa is alive. Forza Roma.

Poor game.

Two sides who barely muster a decent final ball or shot on target, despite the opposition making little serious effort to prevent them from doing so.

If I'd been reffing that game, both side would have had about four players sent off. Was a classic case of a ref being quick to give out first bookings, then realising he'd half to be more lenient to avoid sending off a heap.

Zdenek Zeman: Fiorentina Made Roma Suffer In Coppa Italia

After Roma edged past Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia quarter final on Wednesday evening, coach Zdenek Zeman declared that he is happy to have progressed to the next round and hopes the Giallorossi can recover in time for this weekend's clash with Inter.

"We always want to win. We're happy to have got a result against an important team. Although it was made more difficult as we didn't make the most of some easy balls, Fiorentina make it difficult for everyone", Zeman told Roma Channel.

"I'd like to go back to our normal tactics and play with four [defenders instead of 3-4-3]. Today it was an emergency and we played like that in order to exploit our players' characteristics. [We had to play] without strikers, and [Alessandro] Florenzi played higher up.

"Today we were made to suffer, but everyone gave their all. I don't think they did it for the coach, but for the fans and for the club. I hope they continue like this, but I'd like it if we were to suffer less.

"Unfortunately [Dodo] didn't stay on the pitch for long. He has quality, but if you don't train with continuity then it will be difficult to play for 90 minutes. But he has good desire, I hope that he makes himself completely available".

Roma must now recover from their extra time victory in double time as they face Inter on Sunday, the first of three fixtures inside 10 days against the Nerazzurri, and Zeman hopes the momentum from the cup will help his side this weekend.

"We have given a lot and we need to recover. Inter also played 120 minutes [against Bologna], but they played before us. We are the only team who won away from home in the quarter finals - I hope this helps us to take on Inter with the same concentration and the desire to get a result".

It's meaningless, yes, Edzo. But it is always good to win. What the boys are doing is telling Zeman to stick his personality and his system up his Bohemian ass and that they are going to do things their way, not his way.

Being the first in Italy to wear the Silver Star would not be meaningless to me. To beat Juve to it would be particularly sweet. Financial implications aside, i'd rather win the Coppa than top 3.

Domani, alle ore 23.30, su Sky Sport, appuntamento con “I Signori del Calcio”. Protagonista l’attaccante della Roma Mattia Destro. Ecco un’anticipazione dell’intervista esclusiva:

Il passaggio dall’Inter al Genoa.
E’ stato deciso insieme, mi hanno chiamato e mi hanno detto che avrebbero preferito che facessi un po’ di esperienza in un’altra squadra. Ho vissuto due sensazioni contrastanti: dal punto di vista della maturazione e della crescita sono stato contento, ho pensato che almeno sarei andato in una squadra dove avrei potuto mettermi in mostra e in cui mi sarei potuto giocare le mie carte; dall’altra parte è stato un po’ una delusione il fatto che la società in cui sei cresciuto non abbia creduto in te, dopo tanti anni passati nel settore giovanile.

Il rapporto con Francesco Totti.
Incontrare Totti non è mai normale. Per la storia, per il giocatore, per la persona. Per quanto riguarda il calciatore, tutti sono a conoscenza delle qualità di Francesco. Però sono poche le persone che conoscono veramente Totti come persona, come ragazzo. Quindi la cosa che mi ha impressionato di più, oltre a vedere la forza e la qualità di Francesco, è di sicuro la sua personalità: è un ragazzo gentilissimo, è sempre disponibile e soprattutto si mette sempre a disposizione del compagno.

La Roma.
Sapevo quanto fosse forte la Roma, soprattutto in attacco, anche perché davanti ci sono giocatori molto forti come Totti, Lamela, Osvaldo, Nico Lopez che, anche se è un ragazzo giovane, ha delle qualità importanti. Sapevo di avere dei compagni di reparto forti però, quando uno arriva in una squadra, cerca sempre di impegnarsi e di conquistarsi il posto, allenamento dopo allenamento. Mi sono sempre messo a disposizione del mister, poi è ovvio che sia il mister, in base al lavoro svolto in settimana, a fare le sue scelte.

Zdenek Zeman.
Da Zeman sto imparando tanto, soprattutto i movimenti del reparto offensivo. Comunque, a mio avviso, non è importante tanto dove giochi, quanto fare i movimenti giusti e soprattutto con i tempi giusti. Anche perché il mister gioca molto in attacco, ti arrivano tanti palloni e hai molte più possibilità di far gol. Gli allenamenti poi sono duri, però sinceramente penso che i risultati si vedano: arrivi alle partite con una condizione perfetta e difficilmente a fine gara sei stanco, hai problemi muscolari o sei affaticato.

I prossimi Mondiali.
Il Mondiale del 2014 è un sogno che hanno un po’ tutti i giocatori ed è rassicurante pensare di avere altri 2 anni a disposizione per impegnarsi al massimo, cercando di migliorare il più possibile, per poi arrivare a questo evento in forma perfetta e dimostrare di essere all’altezza.
