gio, i understand your impatience with the old fart. if i had endured 50 or 75 or however many years of 'mediocrity' you have had to live through, i'd probably be singing a different tune. with that said, i think there's plenty of time to win silverware under this management in the future. what there isn't plenty of time for, though, is totti. i want zeman to be our coach for as long as he can play, regardless of if we finish 3rd or 8th.

besides, napoli was on the ref, and destro and bradley helped a little too. for catania, destro took it all on himself like a man, although bradley and florenzi couldn't help but give him a hand either. no matter what coach you have, if you can't fucking put the ball in the net from 5 yards out, you won't be in the top 3. what you would be right to argue, though, is that under a different coach, the comical finishing and referring might not have cost us the game, since someone like mighty mou could have come out of both of those with a 0-0.

I disagree with lots of things in that article. In fact, all of it.

You don't pick players just because of how much they earn (which was in response to a question asked to Zeman by a journalist post Catania game), much like how you don't pick them because of reputation. DDR wasn't selected for tactical reasons, as Zeman explained, and because he is not on the best of form right now. I want to see DDR play all the time because he is world-class and an idol, but I can understand leaving him out for certain reasons. Wages is not one of them.

Burdisso was struggling to get into the team because he was injured and in his absence Marquinhos exceeded all early expectations and formed a good partnership with Castan. Where is the problem in not selecting Burdisso? There is no issue there whatsoever.

Very harsh on Florenzi, Tachtsidis and Bradley. One is potentially a future Azzurri midfield regular, Tach may be still a bit raw but he is coming fresh from a few seasons of Serie B football and has shown his quality, and Bradley, while no superstar, is widely praised.

To suggest Zeman change tactics shows ignorance of the man. He has never wavered from his 4-3-3 or changed tactics in all his managerial career, a fact which was known when our management decided to hire him and build a squad to suit him.

Yeah, a good article, I think, FI. Tactical inflexibility; an inability (or refusal) to get the best out of top-class players like Pjanic and De Rossi; a stubbornness to stick to his guns in the face of lots of evidence to the contrary - that's Zeman and it's not the makings of a good coach. Any of Florenzi, Tachtsidis, and Bradley alongside Pjanic and De Rossi might furnish a strong midfield, but the three of them together are not, on paper, a top-class midfield.

I could not have said it any better. In fact, I may have said pretty much everything indicated in that article relative to Zeman's major flaws over the course of the last 8 weeks. Edzo, what else can we expect of you. How you can disagree with much in that article is quite fantastic in every sense of that word. The only thing I would say is that it is not possible to judge Iglesias after only one year at Roma and with no prior track record to call his hiring a mistake. Zeman's hiring was a mistake. Don't you understand, Edzo. He is holding back the squad because of his inflexibility and his warped view of who can best execute his system on a given day. There is no reason in light of the talent on the team that these struggles continue. It is perfectly obvious as to why Zeman has not been hired by a Serie A team in 10 years. When I see a far less talented lazzie team just 3 points from the top it makes my physically sick.

And Davis, what can I say? You are young and stupid which is fine as long as you grow up someday.

Edzo, if you had a brain, you would be dangerous. Are you seriously that dense. Maybe that's a bad question since you mention Zeman's time at Foggia in nearly every post. You have only seen him in action for less than half a year and you believe you are in a better position to judge than me? It is going on 4 years of Zeman at Roma for me. This reminds me a lot of your defense of Vucinic. Every bloody excuse in the world was made for his piss poor attitude and more importantly, his piss poor play. Hence, the 'dodgy ginocchio reference yesterday.

I was saying the same sorts of things about Nazio to Davit earlier in the afternoon - I was really impressed with them at Spurs because they were organised, good at keeping the ball when they had it, and carried a threat going forward. I don't think they have better players than Roma does and their coach is also in his first year at the club, but I'm not surprised to see them doing well. One of the differences, I'd say, is that Petkovic - like Montella - doesn't think he's a bloody genius and so does the fairly simple things right. Zeman, I'd say, thinks he is and so doesn't.

One thing people should ask themselves is that if Zeman's principles are so brilliant, then why are they not imitated by coaches all over the world? And on what basis can Zeman be so certain of them, given his lack of success to demonstrate their quality? Zeman can stick to his principles because whenever something goes wrong he blames the players for not implementing them properly rather than accepting that perhaps he got something wrong along the way.
