This isn't Serie B, though, and we could be looking at a lot of teams' taillights by January. If we hadn't 'won' the Cagliari match, we'd only have 5 points, which would put us in that cluster above the drop zone. (not saying I think we'll drop, just saying I don't know how much of a climb we can make if things aren't better sooner rather than later) It takes a few more games for a real points spread to show in the standings, but I fear we're going to be on the wrong part of it.

I've no idea whether Zeman's practices are the right ones - were they self-evidently so then every coach would follow them. I was just proposing an explanation for something people seem to have been observing. If the team claims enough points after Christmas to win the Scudetto, no-one will be complaining; if they claim just enough points to sneak twelfth, almost everyone will be.

I see that Fio are looking to extend Montella's contract. I can't help wondering if they've got an eye on Roma's results and the likelihood of Roma seeking a new coach at the end of the season (before then would count out Montella in any case). I still wonder what went on between the time Roma seemed to be interested in Montella and then suddenly were not. Not that it matters at this point, really.

Christoph Winterling: Roma Marketing Project Is Ahead Of Serie A Competitors

Roma marketing director Christoph Winterling has spoken about Roma's off-the-field activities and believes that they are leading their competitors with their plans for globalising the club's brand. Winterling highlighted the recent partnership with Disney and the plans to go back to the USA for further tours in the interview with Kicker, as well as reiterating that the new stadium should be in place by 2016.

"Roma are ahead of the competition in Serie A in terms of the globalisation of the brand, management of the fans, merchandising, comfort in the stadium and incentivising international sponsors", Winterling told the German magazine.

"These are almost unknown words in Serie A, but not for Roma, however, under the current American owners. With 87 million fans in 36 countries, we want to maximise the potential of the AS Roma brand.

"Beyond that, the club wants to attract millions of tourists. It has become the new exclusive partner of Disney with an agreement for six years, and tours of the United States and Asia are planned for the coming seasons.

"There is a former member of the American Secret Service as the head of security, entertainment at the stadium before and during games, a dedicated section for kids, areas for families, interactive screens in the corporate sections and intensive use of social media, and [the plan is to have] a stadium by 2016.

"These are just a few of the projects that the club has already presented and that allow us to position ourselves ahead of the competition. At the same time, we have cancelled the free tickets for politicians, VIPs, pseudo-VIPs and local private companies.

"We are therefore leaving the image of pure ownership and moving towards a structure that is more corporate and business orientated. The strategy seems attractive, but whether international sponsors will have faith in Italian football remains to be seen. The sponsors are also attracted to success, but this is the responsibility of [Zdenek] Zeman".

I got better.

My feeling about Zeman is this, the 3-2 loss i can attribute to him. This tie, i don't know. We were clearly the better team even in the second half. Destro struggled and Stek botched it.

The tired look in the second half is troubling and perhaps that's due to Zeman's PT during the summer. It's also fair to suggest that DDR not being fit enough to start and Ozzy being unavailable played a major role.

It's a young team, capable of playing above their heads and then below their feet. Sometimes in the same game.
