Pallotta dives in for Roma

Celtics' owner Jim Pallotta is going head-first into his investment in AS Roma. Pallotta attended Roma's 2-0 win over Chievo Sunday, also working on contract negotiations with midfielder Daniele De Rossi, then meeting with the team Monday.

After dining with the coaches and players at the team's training facility at Trigoria, Pallotta went to the pool, raised a prosecco toast and said: "I am one with you. We are Roma and we are afraid of nothing," according to a report in La Repubblica. Pallotta then jumped fully-clothed into the pool.

"Instinctive, determined, crazy, sure of himself. Roma has the president it wanted," La Repubblica wrote.

It does seem like a strange mistake for La Repubblica to make, since the Boston paper claims to be quoting them. The president is Di Benedetto, right?

Questa l'intervista rilasciata a Roma Channel da James Pallotta durante il suo periodo appena trascorso a Roma.

Quali sono le prime sensazioni che ha avuto arrivando in Italia, specialmente a Roma?
Sono venuto in Italia tante volte la amo, il mio unico problema e' che credo di aver lavorato troppo negli ultimi 30 anni e non ho passato abbastanza tempo in Italia con la mia famiglia. La famiglia di mio padre ha origini romane, la famiglia di mia madre e' di Bari, mi considero al 100% italiano prima ancora di considerarmi americano, e ho visto che i miei due figli pensano la stessa cosa. La prima impressione venendo qui e' stata spettacolare non mi ero reso conto di come questa struttura fosse fenomenale, non la conoscevo. Ho visto che ancora di piu' lo e' lo staff tecnico, l'allenatore, con Franco, Walter e tutti gli altri. Questa e' un'organizzazione di primo livello. Probabilmente sono ancora molto piu' entusiasta oggi, e credo che quando tornerò a Boston e parlero' con gli altri soci gli dirò cosa ho visto e che dovrebbero venire a Roma anche loro a vedere cosa stiamo facendo qui. Ripeto, sono entusiasta oggi più che mai rispetto a quando abbiamo cominciato a parlare ed entusiasta di poter avere avuto una tale fortuna di diventare i proprietari della Roma.

Ha incontrato lo staff, cosa l’ha impressionata maggiormente?
Sapevo gia' della loro competenza, che e' il massimo, ma vederla dal vivo, vedere un allenamento, parlare con Walter, tentando di togliergli qualche sigaretta, cosa difficile perche' se le tiene tutte per lui! E' un incredibile gruppo di talenti, quello dello staff. Mi piace moltissimo quello che stiamo vedendo, quello che Luis sat facendo...dal mio punto di vista spero soltanto che la proprieta' possa essere quanto piu' possibile vicina alla bravura dello staff tecnico, così saremo una grande squadra per lungo tempo.

Per lei investire nella Roma, può essere un tuffo nel passato ma anche un salto nel futuro, giusto?
Mah, non lo vorrei vedere come un investimento, per me non e' importante sotto l'aspetto finanziario. Come sono stato fortunato per essere riuscito a far parte di qualcosa con i Celtics, per me anche questa e' un'opportunità per creare di nuovo qualcosa di veramente speciale, avere Roma al top nel mondo, una delle migliori squadre, perche' questo e' cio' che Roma dovrebbe essere. Questo e' quello che mi guida, se la Roma fa bene non è qualcosa puo' cambiarmi la vita o quella dei miei soci da un punto di vista finanziario. E' più una questione di cuore.

Che obbiettivi avete stabilito, per esempio lo scudetto o quali altri obiettivi?
Se io cominciassi a parlarvi di calcio adesso non farei la cosa giusta, perche' non ho neanche lontanamente le competenze del nostro staff tecnico, il nostro obiettivo e' quello di fornire tutte le risorse necessarie a Franco e agli altri per avere una grande squadra per lungo tempo. Dire che vogliamo vincere entro un certo numero di anni non credo sia il mio compito. Noi dobbiamo fornire le risorse, poi abbiamo lo staff manageriale ed e' solo una questione di tempo arrivare dove meritiamo di essere.

Totti e' una leggenda qui e non soltanto ed è anche un brand internazionale, a proposito di questo come lavorerete sul merchandising, sulla comunicazione?
Nei prossimi mesi annunceremo tante cose e vedrete molte cose sulle quali stiamo lavorando. Attualmente abbiamo predisposto un piano generale. Mark Pannes, Sean Barror ed altri hanno lavorato a questo piano con me e con gli altri partners. Riguardo il brand, la Roma, da un punto di vista sportivo e' il meno "sfruttato" al mondo, prima di tutto e piu' di tutti noi abbiamo Roma , Roma sta sopra a tutte le altre citta', percio' la possibilità di divulgare il brand e' significativa, abbiamo in cantiere anche un tour negli states la prossima estate, e la mia idea e' quella di una tournée come mai sia stata fatta prima. E faremo anche altri annunci, ma non vogliamo ora fare un salto in avanti. L' obiettivo e' che meglio faremo in questo piu' risorse aggiungeremo alla squadra.

Totti e De Rossi, li ha incontrati, che effetto le hanno fatto?
Credo di aver fatto firmare De Rossi, nella breve conversazione che abbiamo avuto in campo (sorride) ... Guardarli giocare e' una cosa, ma parlare con loro anche se brevemente, ti fa capire che sono entrambi di gran classe, rappresentano Roma davvero molto bene e per questo vogliamo tenerli con noi il più a lungo possibile, perché sono la Roma per me.

Il management attuale ha già fatto un gran lavoro, ma possiamo dire che siamo solo all'inizio?
Se vogliamo paragonarlo con il baseball possiamo dire che siamo solo al primo inning. Veramente e' cosi in tutto cio' che abbiamo pianificato: lanciare il brand, il merchandising, le tournée, collaborazioni e partnership che annunceremo nei prossimi mesi e che mostreranno alla gente cosa siamo, per ora siamo solo al primo inning.

Luis enrique ha rappresentato per il calcio italiano una grande novità , non solo tecnica ma anche di mentalità ,è questa la strada per raggiungere i risultati?
Riguardo la parte tecnica, noi vogliamo avere il meglio che possiamo, e credo che lo abbiamo. Dal punto di vista della proprieta' noi dobbiamo fornire le risorse, come ho detto prima, e se lo facciamo possiamo acquisire quello che ci serve per avere successo.

Un famoso proverbio dice : “Tutte le strade portano a Roma”, un gioco del destino?
Si lo e' , mio padre è scomparso due anni fa, proprio questa settimana di due anni fa , lui era di Roma e mi sarebbe piaciuto se avesse potuto assistere a
tutto cio'. Mia madre naturalmente e' felice per questo, la mia famiglia anche , ma avrei voluto che mio padre avesse avuto l'opportunita' di assistere a tutto questo perché l'avrebbe amato piu' di qualsiasi altra cosa. Mio padre era un vero italiano, un vero romano

I agree Totti should be rested for this one, and I'd also like to see Caprari get the start. Play Lamela through the middle in Totti's position and give him more responsibility to create. He should thrive there and be our main dangerman and cause Fiorentina all sorts of problems. We'll also have Borini to come in and see what he can do. Kjaer also need a good game without any major brain-farts or incidents.

Thats shitty, fuckin disgusting news about Alberto De Rossi, if true. Its just unimaginable that that could happen.

Caprari, Bojan and Lamela would be nice, because this team needs to experiment to find its cutting edge.

In that clusterfuck of a game in Florence, Roma had 14% more possession, almost twice as much time in teritorial supremacy (14 minutes to 7m 30s) and had both quality and quantity in passing: 73.5% to 71.4% of all passes were successful, and they made 100 or so more than La Viola. Amazing stuff, away from home in a game you lose by three goals and in which three of your players are sent off.

A cup tie like this offers the young guns a fantastic opportunity to impress against good opposition.

Well done by the boys getting the win today, although it didn't seem like a sure thing at halftime. Perrotta made a difference when he came in; nice to see he's still got it and (as maro mentioned in the SB), LE had let him run. Borini did well when he came in too, which is welcome seeing as Osvaldo is out for a while.
