A really fuckin nice one, Edzo! You would have loved it. 3 scoops as well, with a big fat Ed Moynihan head on me. Pistacchio, marron glace and cassata. I had a massive arancino too.

My amazing diet tips aside, it's great to start 2012 with a win. And even though Chievo made it hard for them to do it, Roma did try to play nice football. Just finished in Palermo now. 1-3 to Napoli. Nice goals, too.

Totti ritorna al gol dopo otto mesi, De Rossi è come sempre maestoso ma è tutta la squadra a fornire una grande prestazione di gruppo che si traduce nella terza vittoria consecutiva, la prima del 2012.

At Catania, Montella only has to deal with Italian and Spanish (Tomáš Košický is still in the squad, but the Slovakian hasn't played in years).

2 Gunnar Nordahl (1949-1958) 225

However, with two more goals Totti would become the leading Serie A scorer in terms of goals for a single club. Gunnar Nordahl scored 225, with 210 for Milan and 15 for Roma. Piola scored 148 for Lazio, the rest of his goals were split among his time at Pro Vercelli, Torino, Juve and Novara. Although Meazza scored 241 for Inter altogether, many of those goals came before Serie A was created. 30 of his Serie A goals were for teams other than Inter. So hopefully that will be another major milestone for Totti this season.

SACCHI SULLA ROMA E LUIS ENRIQUE – Arrigo Sacchi, ex Ct della nazionale Italiana, è stato intervistato da Tele Radio Stereo. Ecco le sue dichiarazioni:

Su Conte e Luis Enrique:
“La Roma di Luis Enrique e la Juventus di Antonio Conte sono due fenomeni isolati. Troppo spesso in Italia c’è il peso dell’opinione pubblica che fa la differenza. Vincere è l’unico verbo che si coniuga. Già tra i ragazzini si nota la voglia di emergere singolarmente, mentre il calcio è uno sport di gruppo. Gli allenatori sono una specie di Don Abbondio, vasi di coccio tra vasi di ferro, con scarsa protezione da parte di chi dovrebbe far crescere il movimento calcistico. Un allenatore bravo, se non ha alle spalle una società competente e quindi paziente, non può esprimersi. Dietro Luis Enrique e Antonio Conte ci sono due società forti.

Su Luis Enrique:
Nel caso di Luis Enrique dico bravi ai tifosi della Roma, che lo hanno aspettato, curiosi, affamati di calcio. Di un certo calcio. Un allenatore, sapendo che in Italia si chiede subito il risultato perché dopo tre quattro partite rischia di essere esonerato, tende a non far emergere i giovani. Luis Enrique può contare su una piazza paziente. La scorsa estate visitai il ritiro della Roma. Lo salutai dicendogli ‘Bienvenido a el infierno’, perché spesso chi prova a portare qualcosa di nuovo viene additato di essere un eretico. Però poi mi ha sorpreso favorevolmente la tifoseria. Quella romanista ha accolto Luis Enrique come quella milanista accolse me in rossonero. Sono contento per Luis Enrique, per la Roma, ma sono contento per il calcio italiano, Luis Enrique fa bene al calcio italiano. Di solito si gioca con copioni poco definitivi, basando tutto sulla qualità del singolo. Si lasciava spesso la partita in mano agli avversari. Non posso dimenticare che Maradona con il Napoli correva dietro al terzino Chendo del Real Madrid.

Sul calcio italiano:
L’Italia è un Paese per duemila anni invaso. Un giorno ero in Inghilterra per un convegno. Mark Hughes era commissario tecnico del Galles, che mi chiese come fossi riuscito a far correre in avanti i calciatori di una squadra italiana, perché forse per retaggi storici l’italiano arretra timoroso dell’invadenza straniera.

Sul modulo della Roma:
A Luis Enrique pochi giorni fa ho chiesto se i giocatori che ha siano funzionali al suo calcio. Lui mi ha risposto diplomaticamente che i suoi ragazzi si impegnano tutti allo stesso modo. Un allenatore non fa miracoli. Credo che alcuni giocatori non siano funzionali al gioco di Luis Enrique. Un po’ si è adattato, anch’io non potevo chiedere a Virdis quello che faceva Gullit. Di conseguenza non puoi trarre il massimo, in linea con quello che auspichi di poter fare. Ma la proposta di Luis Enrique non ha niente in comune con il classico calcio all’italiana.

Su De Rossi:
Per De Rossi c’è stato un errore di valutazione, perché per un calciatore di simile livello non si dovrebbe arrivare a un anno dalla scadenza, e in una situazione simile la maggior parte dei calciatori si sarebbero già accordati con altre società. Ma De Rossi è diverso. Quando ero al Real Madrid sentii il mio amico Sergio Berti perché lo avrei voluto acquistare. Ma già allora il ragazzo dimostrò grande attaccamento alla Roma.

Calcio italiano e calcio all’estero:
Affermo con dispiacere che da noi c’è un virus, quello dell’esterofilia. E in Italia siamo sempre in ritardo. Paesi che erano votati all’esterofilia come Inghilterra e Francia, da tempo hanno ridotto già del quindici per cento il numero degli stranieri nei campionati nazionali. Io sono coordinatore del settore giovanile della Federcalcio, noto con amarezza che da noi davanti ai ragazzini di talento, e in Italia ce ne sono, si pensa prima al risultato che alla prestazione. Il calcio per rimanere à la page, per essere attuale, deve aggiornarsi con la velocità in cui ci si evolve nella vita. In Italia sono cambiati già oltre dieci allenatori. Non c’è programmazione. Per creare una squadra, per amalgamarla, per far salire i terzini, si fa una fatica mostruosi. In Italia ci sono ragazzi bravi. Non solo Destro. Anche Gabbiadini. Ma ad esempio per la Nazionale Under 21 dobbiamo spesso pescare nel Pescara dove c’è Zeman che nonostante non sia più un ragazzino continua a essere l’allenatore più giovane. Merce rara”.
