Shield, it's probably sketched as a 4-3-2-1, with Baptista and Perrotta supporting Vooch, but it could just about be 4-2-3-1 with Aquilani in front of Pizza and DDR and the others either side of him. We're never going to get any width with this formation, though, and no doubt Spags knows this. The way you get width in this formation is through your fullbacks, but Inter are inevitably playing the 4-3-3 to keep the fullbacks very busy and unable to get too far forward. None of this is surprising. Spags seems just to be trying something, asking the boys to come up with something in a new system, but so far with little joy. Presumably we're likely to see Totti in the second half, with Vooch going to the left, or perhaps Esposito?

To my mind, it's rather a case of Spags playing a "what happens if we play like this" kind of game, rather than actually going out tactically set up to win it. Not, perhaps, that he has too many alternatives.

I suppose the only consolation is that Mancini's been predictably mud. Let's see if the second half brings a few changes and a bit more joy.

Thanks Tuna/Maro. Its all making for one dull game anyway, with our lack of wingers and creativity with players playing out of positions in an adapted system of our 4-2-3-1 up against a typical Portuguese-inspired 4-6-0 machine. Still, like GR touched on on the previous page, its fecking great to have calcio back again. I was away camping the last couple of days in the Wicklow mountains in weather which wouldn't look out of place in that film 'The Day After Tomorrow', plus went to see Cork v Kerry in the All-Ireland football semi-final today, so calcio hasn't been top of the agenda for a while, but now it is back, with a good stream too, and it feels good.

Has our defence learned nothing from their mistakes over the past couple of years? Ibrahimovic's first real threat on our goal in 6 mins left Juan and Riise badly wanting IMO. I don't even feel like commenting on what could have been an autogol by Mexes before Inter took the lead.

Shield, the "ginger tosser" could have made a name for himself on 19 mins with a better shot on goal...

I found myself asking all too early in this game just to whom we could look for inspiration, someone to come off the bench to change things now that we have lost the moody one and the atomic moaner...I beg your pardon, goblin! But even if our Capitan' does come on he is not yet himself.
