Sure - the exchange between R&J is in sonnet form; lots of S's pentameter is in rhyming form of one kind or another (couplets or abab). Strictly, though, the iambic pentameter is metrically independent of rhyme.

These are quite well thought-out rhymsters:

Pent- as in pentangle and Pentagon etc., Davit (and so hexameters and trimeters etc. etc.). I think a pantameter would probably be either universally inclusive meter (any number of syllables allowed within any particular line) or simply one single, infinitely long line.

Well, I suspect the record-books would suggest pretty strongly that Pandev has been a more effective player over the years than Vooch has. I don't know what I think of Marchisio, really. I like his attitude - and the fact that he's Italian. He's a good player, a natural fit in a 4-3-3, he seems to have over-taken Aquilani, really, which is interesting, too. I'm not sure he's ever going to be much more than a very solid, player, though, rather than a special one (he's not as gifted as Aquilani, though he seems to be making rather more of those gifts). I'm not sure he'd offer much that someone like Brighi doesn't offer. Which is, of course, also a compliment to Brighi and to that little extra quality that means Perrotta's a World Cup winner and Brighi isn't. What do you think of Marchisio? Were he English then I suspect the general response would be rather different.

Oh I know Pandev has been a more effective player no doubt. I just know the problems signing him will bring for the new ownership. Even though it isn't a direct Lazio to Roma move.

Tom, how did you become a Romanista?

A complex of things, really - first of all, Rome. Secondly, when I came to the UK in '98 I started following football because I knew I couldn't get into northern hemisphere rugby and I had to choose a team to support. And also when I was travelling on my way over here I spent three months in Germany, Italy, and France, and when I was in Rome, staying at the youth hostel just down from the Olimpico, there was a friendly against one of the Brazilian teams - I forget which one, now, which was a good-spirited chaos it was impossible not to enjoy. Put those three things together and it's as clear as mud, right?
