The first time I went to that unfair city I was fleeced for £80 for a fake ticket, then got in but had to watch us bow out of the UEFA Cup after we were awarded a penalty that became a corner. Then I went to a godawful pub to drown my sorrows, and was the youngest, slimmest and soberest person there, not something that happens often. A hopeless alcoholic asked me what I thought of the city, obviously expecting a visitor's platitudes, but I had to tell him it was a festering shithole. He was geniunely shocked and seemed incapable of comprehending that someone could dislike the place.

Heard rumours of Luis Enrique being linked to the job. If he's another Guardiola then great, but it would be a risk. I'd still prefer Ancelotti, I think we should be going all out to get Carlo!

Just thinking in terms of minor rather than major tweaks. It would be interesting to know where this side might have got to had the money spent on Cicinho and Baptista not been wasted (which isn't to say that it's not sort of inevitable that sometimes transfers won't quite come off).

That was Maro who posted that not me.

I don't really mean that Luis Enrique not being able to speak Italian would be directly much of a burden to him, like you said the familiarity with Italian is there, but more so that he has no experience of Italy, he's probably not all the familiar with Italian football, with the culture, the idiosyncrasies of the Italian game, the trends of opposition teams, small things like that. It may not be much, but for a manager who is completely new to top-level management in a top league it may be a little bit too much. With Montella, at least he is more than familiar with all that is expected of him, if not with the pressures of top-level management.

Its unfair to judge Monty on that short period he had, but I agree that he wasn't ready. All I'm saying is that I don't quite know if Luis Enrique is ready either, and even though the latters CV is more respectable in terms that he has coached at a higher level than Under-15's, I still think both are a big risk and if we're going that way I'd prefer we took a risk with our own man rather than someone from a different league.
