nobody thought we could even advance past the qualifying rounds, and there we were, placing 2nd in our group and advancing to the "elite round," where we were placed in a group with spain, england and ukraine.
only 1 team from each group was meant to advance to the final tournament. defeating england with a last-minute winner, whooping ukraine and drawing with spain meant that we topped the group and eliminated all 3 of those giants.
in the final tournament - in a group with france, germany, and iceland - we looked like the underdogs once again. we started off brilliantly, but still lost to germany by a goal. we then narrowly tied with france, who managed to equalise late in the game.
going into the final matchday before the semifinal, things seemed pretty rough. we had to beat iceland, and an already qualified germany had to beat or tie with a brilliant and determined france.
rest is history.
