I thought I'd save this conversation from the Shoutbox regarding the debacle from the play-off second-leg between France and Ireland, and the disgusting manner in which they won and robbed Ireland of participation in FIFA's corrupt World Cup.

If there had been a pattern pro-French reffing through the two games, you might have a point, Shield.

As it was a single bad decision, I don't see how it can be seen as being systematic favouring of the 'big teams' by FIFA.

What about the seeding system, Red? Announced only a few weeks before the games? Rubbish. Sure, that's how it's probably supposed to be and everyone wants to see the biggest teams in the WC but that was tripe. That was almost as bad as UEFA changing the rules so Liverfekkin'wankscum could get back into the comp when they finished 5th that season.

The seeding thing was fucked up, and I said that at the time.

I didn't have a problem with Liverfekkin'wankscum getting into the CL that year, as it traditional for a team to be allowed to try to defend a title.

I love the headlines but as we know, nothing will be done. Nothing can be done. Edzo, you have been against technology for years now. If a coach had the ability to challenge what happened, and he would have under my philosophy because it led to a goal, then this whole thing could have been reversed. But, here we are again. Another controversy. More suspicion of corruption and there is nothing anyone can do. It's over.

FIFA has denied the request to replay the Ireland/France World Cup qualifier despite Wednesday’s match ending with a goal scored off an admitted Thierry Henry handball assist. While Ireland fails to go through to the World Cup on an officiating error, we should note the French triumphing on a clerical error is a properly absurd victory for a nation proud of its Dadaist art and existentialist philosophy.

Instead, look at the positive: now you can look forward to France declaring victory despite losing by three goals in an opening round debacle in South Africa, coach Raymond Domenech wearing an enormous papier-mache replica of his own head during matches as a piece of performance art, and Thierry Henry attacking his own goal “to mock the silly conventions of the bourgeoisie.â€

Keane blasts FIFA over seedings after France edges through World Cup playoff

SAINT-DENIS, France — Ireland captain Robbie Keane has blasted football's governing body for using seedings in the World Cup playoff draw, and claims FIFA president Sepp Blatter will be delighted France qualified.

Keane's clinical first-half goal put Ireland ahead at Stade de France, but William Gallas equalized in extra time and sent the French through 2-1 on aggregate after their scrappy 1-0 win in Dublin.

Although angry at Thierry Henry's handball in the move leading to Gallas' goal, Keane was livid over the decision to make France one of the four seeded teams in the playoff draw, whereas Ireland was not seeded.

Keane said Blatter and UEFA president Michel Platini, who is French, would be "texting each other, delighted with the result" now that France is through and that "there's no way in a million years it was going to be a fair draw."
