Lazio striker Mauro Zarate is comparable with Ezequiel Lavezzi because he doesn't work for the team, according to his new boss Edy Reja.

Reja trained Lavezzi at Napoli between 2007 and 2009, and often grew angry at the Argentinian's selfish style of play.

Zarate, who also happens to be Argentinian, has already been criticised this season by Davide Ballardini, Reja's predecessor.

Speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli, Reja said: “Mauro is a great player, but he is a little like Lavezzi: he rarely passes the ball. He has to put himself at the service of the team.â€

Mauro Zarate's Disenchantment At Lazio Puts Arsenal On Red-Alert - Report

The agent and brother of Lazio forward Mauro Zarate, Sergio, has revealed that a fall-out with manager Edy Reja could be the catalyst for a summer departure, putting long-term fan, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, on red-alert.

According to the Daily Mail, Zarate is growing tired of being limited to a substitutes' role.

Premiershit sides such as Arsenal, Liverfekkin'wankscum and Manchester City are monitering the situation, and speculation is rife suggesting Zarate could follow Goran Pandev's example and leave for a free due to a contract breach.

Reja was critical over Zarate's perceived selfishness, but Sergio believes this is the contributing factor to his goal return.

"It is because he is so individualistic that Zarate has scored 30 goals in Italy, so I think he should be left in peace.

"I don't think Reja knows him yet and when he understands the quality of the player, he'll take all this back and will always put him in the starting XI."

He continued: "If Lazio feel that they do not need him, then that is very simple. We just need the coach to tell president Claudio Lotito and get him to rescind the contract.

"Mauro would love to stay at Lazio and respect his commitment to the club, as he is happy here."

Lazio not interested in Nani - Friday 26 February, 2010

Lazio President Claudio Lotito has rejected claims that he has asked Gianluca Nani to join the club as a director general.

Nani left his position at West Ham United on Wednesday despite still having 12 months on his contract.

He brought the likes of Alessandro Diamanti and Valon Behrami to Upton Park and has a reputation for unearthing young talent.

Nani also worked with Lazio director of sport Igli Tare during their time together with Brescia.

Speaking to Tutto Mercato Web, Lotito said: “I have never contacted Gianluca. A deal absolutely doesn't exist.

“I have never spoken to him,” he concluded.

Lazio are in a phase of rebuilding after a terrible season in Serie A.

The Biancocelesti fired Davide Ballardini earlier this month and replaced him with Edy Reja.

Lazio currently lie fifth from bottom in the table. They are back in action on Saturday evening when Fiorentina travel to the Stadio Olimpico.

Zarate to join the fans Friday 12 March, 2010

Lazio striker Mauro Zarate will join the club's fans in the Curva Nord for Sunday's match against Bari.

The 22-year-old Argentinian was suspended for two games earlier this week after his furious reaction to getting sent off against Sampdoria.

It's been a difficult season for Maurito.

This time last year he was scoring the goals that inspired Lazio to victory in the Coppa Italia.

He has found the net on just three occasions in the current campaign and drew strong criticism from the club's technical staff for his attitude.

As a gesture of their support, the fans yesterday invited Zarate to watch the Bari game with them.

Il Corriere dello Sport understands he has said yes and that he will be there with his brother Sergio and his manager Luis Ruzzi.

It will cap off Zarate's 23rd birthday celebrations, which start tomorrow.

Reja dreams of derby victory Wednesday 14 April, 2010

Lazio boss Edy Reja says that he dreams of recording a victory for the club's fans in this weekend's Rome derby.

It's Reja first match against Roma since he took charge of Lazio and one with plenty of meaning as well at this stage of the season.

Lazio can derail Roma's title challenge with a win and also ensure that they survive in Serie A.

t was a 3-1 defeat for 10-man Udinese at Lazio, but Capocannoniere Antonio Di Natale ends his season with 29 goals.

These two sides round off disappointing campaigns, although ultimately they managed to avoid relegation. The Biancocelesti were already on vacation to a degree, as Nando Muslera left early to join Uruguay's World Cup squad. Mourad Meghni, Francelino Matuzalem, Aleksandar Kolarov, Albano Bizzarri, Stefano Mauri and Pasquale Foggia were also sidelined, so third choice goalkeeper Tommaso Berni took the gloves.

Udinese made changes too, as Samir Handanovic and Aleksandar Lukovic sat out bans with Andrea Coda, Paolo Sammarco, Gokhan Inler and Emanuele Belardi injured.

Simone Pepe and Antonio Floro Flores had early efforts, while Cristian Brocchi volleyed over from a poor clearance.

Udinese had far more of the play in the early stages, but it was Lazio who broke the deadlock. Thomas Hitzlsperger has barely made an impact on Serie A since arriving in January, but he scored his debut goal with a thunderbolt from distance that took a slight deflection off Maurizio Domizzi.

Berni controlled a Pepe free kick and Sergio Floccari wasted a counter-attack following Damiano Ferronetti's howler.

Udinese got back into the game with Antonio Di Natale's 29th goal of the season, confirming his Capocannoniere status. He took on the Lazio defence single-handed, cutting through the middle to fire in a low right-foot shot from the edge of the box.

Lazio almost restored their advantage moments later, but Venezuelan goalkeeper Rafael Romo was at full stretch to palm Tommaso Rocchi's snapshot round the base of the post.

Rocchi again tested Romo, who had to rush off his line to deflect the angled drive with his knee, pushing it inches past the upright.

Udinese shot themselves in the foot after 37 minutes, as Mauricio Isla took his protests too far for his shirt-tug on Brocchi and received two yellow cards in quick succession. His behaviour was particularly odd considering this game does not count for anything more this season.

Lionel Scaloni fired wide from a corner and Lazio turned up the pressure, so Pasquale Marino made a tactical switch with Cuadrado replacing striker Floro Flores and Pepe moving back into midfield.

Cristian Ledesma fired just wide of the upright, but it was Sergio Floccari who made it 2-1 on the stroke of half-time.

Floccari gathered from Rocchi in the D and brilliantly placed a powerful yet precise shot into the far top corner with the inside of his right foot.

After the restart Brocchi got Lazio's third, as his left-foot shot from the edge of the box rolled between a sea of legs to beat a surprised Romo at the base of the near post.

Romo beat away a Ledesma free kick that curled over the defensive wall, but it should've been 3-2 on the hour mark! Di Natale sprung the offside trap and sprinted into the box, rolling across for the totally unmarked Sanchez, who incredibly ballooned over from six yards! The goalkeeper was stranded, so this was a truly extraordinary miss.

10-man Udinese threatened again with Cuadrado's low effort smothered by Berni, while Romo caught Floccari's curler.

Lazio also wasted a golden opportunity when Floccari sprung the offside trap on a ball over the top, but fired straight at Romo in a one-on-one. Moments later Romo comically fumbled a weak Mobido Diakite' effort, but managed to scramble it back into his hands before Floccari could pounce.

Diakite' risked a straight red for his terrible late tackle on Siqueira, but got away with a yellow card.

Romo rushed off his line twice to close down Floccari, while Sanchez had two shots deflected.
